.
3:145 “ And it is not within the power of any one to die but with the
permission of Allah (and) on stipulated time. And whosoever intends to
get the reward of this world, We will give it to him; and whosoever
wishes to have the reward of the Hereafter, We (of course) will grant it
to him. And We will soon give a reward (in this world also) to those, who
are grateful”. * [4:78;7:34;16:61;21:34;63:11]
* For every individual, there is a time for death. (See3:145;6:2;35:45;63:11)
For every nation, there is a time for death. (See 7:34;10:49;23:43)
3:146 “ And many a Prophet fought (in the Way of Allah) and along with
them fought also many slaves of Allah. But they were not discouraged
due to the calamities that were inflicted on them in the Way of Allah. Nor
were they weakened and nor did they concede. And Allah likes those,
who show perseverance (in difficulties)”. [3:139]
3:147 “ And they uttered not (a single word of discouragement) but
prayed: ‘Our Lord! Forgive our sins and our blunders in (discharging)
our duties (towards You) and keep our feet unwavering (in the
battlefield) and grant us victory over the non-believers”.[2:250,28647:7]
3:148 “ Thus, Allah granted them the reward of this world and the beautiful
reward of the Hereafter. And Allah likes ‘Al-Mohsinun’ (the righteous, the
virtuous)”.
3:149 “ O’ you who believe! If you obey those who disbelieved, they will force you back on your heels (to the state of disbelief), when you will return as losers”. [2:21;5:54;47:38]
3:150 “ But Allah is your Protector, and He is the Best of supporters”.
3:151 “ We shall terrorize * the hearts of the non-believers because they
set up partners with Allah for which He sent down no authority for it.
Their destination is Hell; and how worst is the dwelling of ‘zalimun’ (non-
believers, unjust)”. [8:12;33:26]
* [In spite of the fact that the polytheists had to some extent an upper hand in the battle of Uhud, they were terrified to such an extent that they retreated hurriedly without overpowering the Muslims. And, when they heard about the Holy Prophet chasing them, they rushed towards Mecca.]
3:152 “ And Allah, of course fulfilled His Promise, when you were wiping
them out with His Permission until you became coward and started
arguing about the order and you then disobeyed after He showed you
which you love (i.e. war booty). From you are some, who like this world,
and there are others from you, who wish to have the Hereafter. [You,
thus, vacated the mountain pass for which strict orders were given to
you for holding it under all circumstances. The enemy, therefore,
attacked you from the rear after capturing the pass, on seeing it
vacated.] Then He made you to retreat for them so as to put you to test.
And, indeed, He forgave you, and Allah is Most Gracious to the
believers”. [8:66-71]
3:153 “ And (remember) when you fled away (in fear) (from the enemy)
without caring to look at any one, and the Messenger (of Allah) was
calling you back from the rear. Then, Allah subjected you to melancholy
after melancholy so that you may not repent on what you lost (i.e. war
booty) and also on the calamity that affected you. And Allah is All -
Aware of what you do”.
3:154 “ Then after such a melancholic state of affairs, He sent down
tranquility to you with slumber* overpowering a group of you, while the
other group was concerned only about their own survival, thinking untruly
about Allah - a thinking based on total ignorance, saying: ‘ Are we
responsible for such a matter, in any way?’ Say (Holy Prophet): ‘
indeed, all matters pertain to Allah’. They conceal in their hearts for
which they have no courage, at all, to express to you. They say: ‘If we
had any thing to do in the matter, we would not have been killed here’.
Say (Holy Prophet
): ‘Even if you had been in your houses, those
for whom death was ordained, they would certainly have gone to their
destination of death. In fact, Allah forced calamities on you (in Uhud) to
test you what is in your breasts and to purify what was in your hearts.
And Allah is All - Aware of what is in your breasts”. [8:11]
* [Abu Talha stated that in the battlefield (of Uhud), the slumber
over powered them so much that the sword fell down from his hand.
He picked it up, but it fell down again (and again)… (Bukhari:4286)
