INTEREST VERSUS SPENDING IN THE WAY OF ALLAH:
3:130 “ O’ you who believe! Don’t eat compound (and all kinds of)
interest. And fear Allah so that you may become successful.”
The Holy Prophet
ordered us to abstain from 7 deadly things:
1. To associate partners with Allah.
2. To practice sorcery (magic).
3. To kill a person forbidden by Allah.
4. To eat usury (interest).
5. To eat the wealth of an orphan.
6. To show back to the enemy and to flee from the battle field at the time of
fighting (Jihad).
7. To make false allegation on innocent women, who guard their chastity and
who are good believers.
(Bukhari:6465)
[See Commentary on 2:275 279 relating to Riba (Interest)]
3:131 “ And fear the Fire (of Hell) that has been prepared for the non-
believers.”
3:132 “And obey Allah and His Messenger so that mercy is bestowed
on you.” * [4:69;8:46;33:71]
* In Surah Al-Anfal, it has been commanded:
“ And obey Allah and His Messenger
, and don’t quarrel, otherwise
you will be weakened and your reputation will blow off…” (8:46)
3:133 “And hurry up to (seek) forgiveness from your Lord and (to seek)
Paradise which is as big as the heavens and earth, prepared for
‘Muttaqun’ (pious, God fearing).” (57:21)
3:134 “ They are those, who:
i) spend (in the Way of Allah) in effluence and in suffering,
ii) suppress their wrath *, and
iii) forgive the people.
And Allah likes the ‘Mohsinun’ (righteous, virtuous).”
(2:261-274;42:37)
* The Holy Prophet
said:
a) “ The strong man (sportsman) is not the one who overpowers the
people by his physical strength, but, in fact the strong man is the
one who overpowers himself in wrath.” (Bukhari:5763)
b) “ On reciting the following words, the wrath vanishes away:
‘Aoozo bi-Allah-ay min-a-shshata’n-ir-a-jeem ‘. (Bukhari:5764)
3:135 “And they are those, who when they have committed an indecent
act or do injustice to themselves, they remember Allah and seek
forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive the sins other than Allah;
and they do not repeat their (sinful) deeds knowingly”.
[4:118;5:39;4:18]
3:136 “ They are the people, whose reward is forgiveness from their
Lord and (award of) Gardens (of Paradise) under which the rivers flow,
where they will live forever. And how beautiful is the reward for those,
who perform good deeds.”
