3:126 “(And Allah did not provide the army of angels,) but to make it the
happy news for you and so that your hearts are satisfied (and
strengthened) with it. And (the fact is) that the victory is not granted
except from Allah, the All -Powerful, the All - Wise”. [8:10]
3:127 “(Allah provided this support) so as to cut off a part of the
unbelievers, or to disgrace them so that they should retreat as
disappointed”. *
3:128 “ (Holy Prophet!
) You have nothing to worry about in the
matter (of the unbelievers). (You have conveyed Allah’s
Commandments with utmost responsibility.) (It is, therefore, for
Allah to decide) whether to accept their repentance (and provide
them an opportunity for accepting Islam) or punish them because
they are surely ‘zalimun’ (unjust)”. *
[See Tadabbur-e-Quran under 3:128.]
* 1. When the Holy Prophet
was seriously wounded in the Battle of Uhud, he sought permission from Almighty Allah to pray against the unbelievers (since inflicting wounds on the Prophet was a serious matter). It was because of this that the above Verse was revealed and the Holy Prophet
then understood that many of them would accept Islam with Khalid bin Waleed, as one of them.
[Qurtabi Zia-ul-Quran under 3:128]
Ans bin Malik narrated that when the Holy Prophet
was seriously wounded, he sstated, while wiping the blood from his face:
“ How can the people be successful, who are smearing
the face of their Prophet with blood, when he is calling
them towards their Lord”.
It was there that the above Verse (3:128) was then revealed.

2. Before the battle of Uhud, the
Holy Prophet
said to his Companions:
“ By Allah! I have experienced a strange dream, whose end is okay.
I observed the killing of my bullocks and the blunting of my sword.
I also observed that my hand has entered into a strong armor,
indicating Al-Madina. The bullocks means some of my companions,
who will be killed. The blunting of my sword indicates that one of
my close relatives will be killed”.
[Seerat-un-Nabi by Ibn Hashsham, Vol.II, P.43, Ghulam Ali & Sons.]
3:129 “ And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is
in the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills.
And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful”. * [2:284]
*[The topic on the Battle of Badr has been interrupted here so as
to give certain Commandments to the believers, as below,
like avoiding interest (Riba) of all kinds and spending in the Way
of Allah, since interest and the niggardly act make the people
coward.]
