3:111-117 ATTITUDE OF THE PEOPLE OF BOOK
3:111 “ They (i.e. the Jews) will not be able to harm you, except to distress
(harass) you. And if they fight you, they will flee from you and they, then, will
not be helped.”
3:112 “Humiliation was thrust upon them wherever they went, excepting the
protection from Allah (for them) (on obeying His Commandments) or through
the protection from people (with defense pact); and they were punished with the
wrath of Allah, and misery was forced on them. This is because of the fact that
they rejected Allah’s Verses and (tried) to kill the Prophets. And this is also due
to the fact that exceeded all limits in disobedience (towards Allah).”

3:113 “ Not all of them are the same. There is a (blessed) group from the People
of the Book, who recite Allah’s Verses (i.e. Al-Quran) during the hours of the
night and they prostrate to Allah.” [4:162]
3:114 “ They believe in Allah and the Day of Judgement as well as enjoin the right
and forbid the wrong; and they hurry up to perform virtuous deeds. And they
are the people, who are from the righteous.”
3:115 “ And whatever virtues they do, they will not be deprived of
reward.* And Allah is All-Aware of those, who fear Him much.”
* The people of the Book on accepting Islam will get double reward.

3:116 “(But) indeed, those who refused to accept Islam, their wealth and children
(about whom they are proud of, and who forbid them to accept Islam) will not
save them from the punishment of Allah, at all. And they are the people of Fire;
they will live there for ever.”

3:117 “ The example of what they spend in the life of this world (on deeds,
which they consider as good) is like the wind of severe cold that struck the
agricultural field of unjust people and wiped it off. And Allah did not inflict any
injustice to them, but they were themselves unjust to themselves.”

3:118 –120 FRIENDSHIP WITH OTHERS
3:118 “ O’ those who believe! Do not make others (i.e. the non-believers) as
your supporters against (the interest of Islam and) your own people (i.e. the
believers) as they will do their utmost to dodge you. They wish to see that which
will harm you. Of course, enmity has appeared from their tongues, and what is
hidden in their breasts is worst than this. Verily, We have explained to you Our
Verses, if you understand.”

3:119 “ Beware! These are you, who love them, but they don’t love you, at all.
And you believe in all the Books (whereas they disbelieve in Al-Quran). And
when you see them, they admit to have believed. But when they are alone, they
bite their fingers at you in wrath (i.e. they just can not tolerate their wrath). Say
(to them):‘ Die away in your wrath’. Indeed, Allah is All -Aware of the secrets of
the hearts”.

3:120 “ (Even) if any (little) good touches you, it pinches them; and if an evil
affects you, they are delighted with it. And if you show perseverance and fear
Allah (by obeying His Commandments), their cleverness can’t harm you, at all.
Verily, Allah surrounds every thing that they do.”
