AMR BIL MARU”F (ENJOINING THE RIGHT)
3:110 “ You are the best community ever raised for (the benefit of) mankind;
You enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and you do believe in Allah. And had
the People of the Book believed, it would have been better for them. From
amongst them are some, who are believers, but most of them are ‘Fasiqun’ (i.e.
rebels and disobedient, who broke away their commitment about believing in the
Last Prophet)”. *
[2:103,143;5:63,65;7:96]
* Note the following in this connection:
1. There must be a group of people established from amongst the general public and also appointed by the Islamic Government for ordering the people to do good and avoid evil, otherwise troubles, rebellions and calamities are likely to occur that may break away the Islamic fabric of the Muslim society into pieces, causing havoc and widespread disaster. The Muslims have observed such a terrible phenomenon in the form of destruction and downfall of Muslims around the globe in the past.
2. The Holy Quran warns:
“ Fear the ‘Fitna’ (disaster) which will not affect only those amongst you, who do injustice (but will sweep away your entire population good and bad together). And know that Allah is severe in (inflicting) punishment.” (8:25)
3. Regarding the reasons for the wrath of Allah inflicted on the Jews, the Holy Quran warned:
“ Why not then the Rabbis and religious scholars forbid (forbade) them
from speaking about (and performing) sinful deeds and eating the
unlawful? Regretfully bad, of course, is what they have been
doing.”(5:63)
4. In an Islamic Society both men and women together, are allies of one another in enjoining the right and forbidding the wrong. (See 9:71,72)
5. Amongst the specific objectives of an Islamic Government are enjoining the right and forbidding the wrong. (See 22:41)
6. The Holy Prophet said:
a) “ If any of you sees an evil, he must stop it with his hand. If he does
not have the necessary power, then (he must stop it) with his tongue.
And if he still can not afford that, he must (at least) consider it bad
in his heart.” (Muslim Mishkat:4908)
b) “ When the people see an evil and don’t stop it, it is quite likely
that Allah may send His torment on (all of ) them.”
(Ibn Majah, Tirmizi Mishkat:4913)
c) “ Allah commanded (angel) Gibraeel (Gabriel) to put a certain town
up side down on its inhabitants. He submitted: ‘ My Lord! There is
Your that slave in it, who has never disobeyed you even for a
moment’. Allah ordered him to put the town upside down on him
also as well as on all of them, since his face never changed even for
a moment on seeing the evil.” (Baihqi - Mishkat: 4923)
