3:69 “ A group of the People of the Book wish to mislead you; but they

can’t mislead any one except themselves, and they just don’t

comprehend.” (See 2:109; 3:99)

3:70 “ O’ People of the Book! Why do you refute the Verses of Allah,

when you yourselves are the witness (to their truthfulness)?

(See 3:86,99)

3:71 “ O’ People of the Book! Why do you intermingle truth and

falsehood, and conceal the truth (about the Last Prophet), when you do

know (about his qualities in the Scripture)?”

(See 2:41,42,146)

3:72 “ And a group of the People of the Book said: ‘ Believe in that (Book) that

has been sent down to the believers (i.e. the Muslims) on the start of the day and

reject it at the end of day so that they may revert (from Islam).”*

(2:14; 47:16)

* [This Verse exposes the dangerous conspiracy of the People of

Book against Islam.]

3:73 “And [The leaders / scholars of the Jews convince their followers that they must take it for granted that they are the only guided people in the world, and, therefore, they direct them:]

a) “Don’t believe (or trust) any one excepting those, who follow your religion?”

[Here the Verse is interrupted, when Almighty Allah instructs His Holy Prophet:]

“Announce (Holy Prophet): ‘ [O’ Jews!] The (true) guidance is the Guidance of Allah (and who are you to issue the license of guidance?).’”

[The Verse then continues to expose the attitude of the Jews.]

[The leaders of the Jews further direct their followers:]

b) “Don’t admit that any one can be given (the Book of

Revelation and the special favor) as granted to you.”

c) “ Don’t believe (under any circumstances) that any one can bring

a proof (or an argument) against you before your Lord (on the

Day of Judgement) (that you are not the guided people).”

“Say (Holy Prophet)! ‘ Indeed, ‘Al-Fazl’ (i.e. the Grace / Favor / Prophet- hood / Guidance) is in the Hand of Allah. He grants it to the one He wills. And Allah is Most Bountiful, All-Aware (of every thing).”

3:74 “ He (Allah) specifies His Mercy for whom He wills. And Allah

is the All - Owner of His endless ‘Al-Fazl’ (Bounty, Grace).”*

* ‘AL-FAZL’ - Bounty / Grace of Allah:

The Holy Prophet said:

a) “ Your example, as compared to the previous nations (i.e. the Jews and

Christians) is like the time period from ‘Asr’ (i.e. late after noon) to

‘Maghrib’ (i.e. sunset). The People of Torah were given the Torah.

They acted upon it till mid day and were exhausted. Each one of them

was given a ‘Qira’t. Then the People of ‘Injeel’ were given ‘Injeel.

They acted upon it till ‘Asr’ (i.e.late afternoon) and were exhausted.

Each one of them was given a ‘Qira’t’ (also). Then you (Muslims)

were given Al-Quran and you acted upon it till the sun set off . Each of

you were given two ‘Qira’t’. The People of the Book submitted:

‘They (Muslims) are the people, who worked less and received the

greater reward.’ Allah replied: “ Did I give you any thing less

from what was your right?”. They submitted: ‘No’. Allah (then) said:

“This is My ‘Fazl’ (Bounty) that I grant it to whom I like.”

(Bukhari:7095,528)

b) “Your example as compared to the People of Book is like that of a

man, who engaged some people for doing some work (for him) and

said: ‘Any one, who will work for me from morning till mid day, he

will get a ‘Qira’t’. Thus, the Jews worked for that period (and each of

them received a ‘Qirat’). Then the man said: ‘ Any one, who will work

for me from mid day till ‘Asr’, he will also get a ‘Qira’t’. Thus, the

Christians worked (for him and each of them got a ‘Qira’t’. Then the

man said: ‘ Who so ever works for me from ‘Asr’ till sunset, he will

get two ‘Qira’t’. The Holy Prophet added: ‘ So, these are (of course)

you (Muslims), and each of you got two ‘Qira’t.’ But the Jews and

Christians became angry and said (to him): ‘ What is the matter? We

worked much and got less’. The man replied: ‘ Did I give you anything

less from what was your right?’ They replied: ‘No.’ The man then said:

‘This is my grace. I grant it to the one I like’. (Bukhari:2148, 2149)

3:75 “ There is (an honest) one from the People of the Book such that if

you make him the trustee of a plenty of wealth, he will return it to you

(quite honestly). But there is also the one from amongst them that if you

keep in his custody even a (coin of) Dinar, he will not give it back to you,

unless you persistently stand on him (enforcing your claim). This

(immorality on the part of such type of people) is due to the fact that

they said: ‘We are not questionable in matters relating to the unlettered

people (i.e. they can deceive the Muslims / Arabs in the matter of their

wealth etc. without being questioned by Allah). And they refer such lies

to Allah, when they surely know (about their lies).”

3:76 “ But who so ever fulfils his promise and fears (Allah), then Allah

(certainly) likes those, who fear Him much.”
