3:65 - 78 THE MENTALITY OF THE PEOPLE OF BOOK
3:65 “ O’ People of the Book! Why do you argue about Ibrahim,
whereas the Torah and the Gospel were not sent down but after him.
Don’t you understand?”
Note: The People of the Book declared that Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), followed their way i.e. he was a Jew / Christian.
3:66 “ Note that you are the people, who have been arguing on matters
about which you have some sort of knowledge. But, after all, why do you
argue on matters about which you have no knowledge, at all? And ,of
course, it is Allah, who knows all, whereas you just don’t know.”
3:67 “ (Listen!) Ibrahim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but
a devoted (and sincere) Muslim (believing strongly in the Oneness of
Allah) and (of course) he was not from the polytheists.”
(See 2:128;6:163)
3:68 “ Indeed, closest to Ibrahim amongst the people are those, who
followed him* and this Prophet (Muhammad - peace be upon him) as
well as the believers (i.e. the Muslims). And Allah is the Supporter of the
believers.” (See 2:135; 6:161; 22:78)
Prophet Ibrahim and our Holy Prophet
-Closest -Same Millat:
Note that the religion of all the Prophets was Islam, but their Shriah (Law) was different.* Their Millat was also different. But the Millat of Prophets Ibrahim and Muhammad (peace be upon them) was the same i.e. both had the same Ka’ba / Qiblah and the same Hajj etc.** Accordingly, amongst all the Prophets, our Holy Prophet was closest to Prophet Ibrahim. Both strongly preached the Oneness of Almighty Allah. The Holy Quran states:
*1. “ …For every one of you, We have laid down a Law and a way of living …” (5:48)
** 2. “ …(O’ Muslims!) It is the Millat of your father Ibrahim (on which you are established)…” (22:78)
3. “ Say (Holy Prophet
)! ‘ Verily, my Lord has guided me to the Straight Path - the Right Religion based on the Millat of Ibrahim - ‘Hanifan’ (strongly emphasizing the belief in the Oneness of Allah)…” (6:161)
4. “ Then We revealed to you (Holy Prophet
) to follow the Millat of Ibrahim -‘Hanifan’ (strongly emphasizing the belief in the Oneness of Allah)…” (16:123)
