3:23-25 FALSE HYPOTHESIS OF THE JEWS
3:23 “ Have you not observed those, who were given a part of the Book (i.e. the Torah & the Injeel) that when they are called towards the Book (i.e. Al-Quran) so as to give its judgement between them, a group of them (i.e. of the Jews) turns away in opposition? (See also 4:51,52)
[Note: The Torah & the Injeel (i.e. the Gospel) were a part of the Book, whereas Al-Quran is the Last and the complete Book containing also the teachings and deposits of the previous Prophets. In the beginning of this Surah (Aal-e- Imran) (Verses 3:3&4), it was stated that Almighty Allah revealed the Torah & the Injeel, and also Al-Furqan (i.e. Al-Quran) the Standard for distinguishing the right from the wrong. In the above Verse 3:23, the people of the Book were invited to put an end to their differences by referring to Al-Quran which will remain the Standard for judging the right and wrong till the Day of Judgement, against the Torah & the Injeel which have been mutilated. The Jews proudly rejected such an invitation and refused to accept Islam on the false hypothesis that the Fire of Hell would not touch them but for a few days, as stated in the next Verse.]
3:24 “ This is because of the fact that they (i.e. the Jews) stated (proudly) that the Fire of Hell would not touch them but for a few days. And they were (persistently) misled in their religion because of the false hypothesis that they had been fabricating. ” (See also 2:80)
3:25 “ How horrible then will be the punishment, when We will gather them together on the Day (of Judgement) about which there is no doubt, at all, and when every one shall be recompensed in full what he did, and that no injustice will be inflicted on them?” (See also 16:111; 39:70)
Note: The Jews will not only be punished in the Last world, but they have also been punished and degraded in this world, as stated in 2:61; 3:112 and also indicated ahead in 3:26, when they were deprived of power. Again, the next Verse 3:26 is in the form of an invocation, taught to us for praying to Almighty Allah for not degrading us (as the Jews were degraded), but to establish us so that we my live honorably as powerful people in the world for the cause of Islam. The next Verse further indicates the rise of the Companions of the Holy Prophet and the downfall of the People of the Jews.
