3:26,27 THE RISE & FALL OF NATIONS

3:26 “ Say: ‘ O’ Allah! You have the absolute power over the entire kingdom (of this universe). You grant kingdom (or territory) whom You will, and snatch kingdom whom You will. And You honor whom You will and degrade whom You will. In Your Hand is total goodness (virtue) [i.e. the rise and fall of people takes place for the betterment of the humanity, at large]. Indeed, You are All -Powerful on every thing.’”

3:27 “ You admit the night into the day, and You admit the day into the night. You produce the living out of the dead, and produce the dead out of the living. And You grant livelihood to whom You will without any computation.”

The rise and fall of nations/people may be understood from

Al-Quran & the Sayings of the Holy Prophet, as below:

1. Almighty Allah grants kingdom / territory of this earth whom He wills from the believers as well as from the non-believers:

“ Verily, (this) earth belongs to Allah only, and He allows those to

inherit it whom He wills from amongst His slaves…” (7:128)

[Note: Only the believers will inherit the earth of the Last World i.e. the Paradse, as stated in 7:43; 21:105; 39:74]

2.Almighty Allah also grants kingdom to the small and ill - equipped nations, when they defeat the powerful nations with His permission and, thus, restore peace and eradicate from earth the trouble created by them:

“ Thus, they (i.e. the army of Talut) defeated the armies of Jalu’t

(Goliath), and Daud (David) killed Jalut, and (in this way) Allah

granted him the kingdom …, and had Allah not repelled a group of

people by another one, the earth would have been filled with trouble…”

(2:251) (See also 22:40)

“ And, of course, Allah granted you victory (O’ Muslims) at Badr,

when you you were weak (and oppressed)…” (3:123)

3. Almighty Allah provides opportunities to the poor nations to struggle for their survival bravely against the oppressors and the unjust powerful nations:

“…(The battle of Badr clearly indicated that) those who were to be

defeated (or killed) must be defeated after a clear proof (of fighting),

and those who were to survive, must survive after a clear a clear

proof (of fighting)…” (3:42)

4. It is the Mercy of Almighty Allah that He elevates the weak and the downtrodden people [like those of Prophet Musa (Moses)], and the destroys the oppressors [like Phiraun (Pharaoh)]:

“ Indeed, Pharaoh became arrogant (and proud) on earth…Surely, He

was from the trouble makers. And We decided to bestow Our Favor

to those, who happened to be weak on earth, and make them the

leaders (or rulers) …, and grant them power on earth and to show to

Phiraun, Hama’n and their armies that about which they were scared

of them (i.e. the Descendants of Israel may not become powerful).”

(28:4,5)

5.No one could defeat the Messengers of Almighty Allah, since they being the Last Proof on earth for the people, were made victorious:

a) “ Allah issued the Verdict: “ I will surely make Myself as well as My

Messengers victorious…” (58:21)

b) “ And, of course, Our Orders have been issued about Our Slaves

i.e. the Messengers, that they would be surely be made victorious.”

(37:171,172) [See also 40:51;17:15]

6.Kingdom granted to the Last Prophet & His Companions:

Almighty Allah granted kingdom to our Holy Prophet and his Companions. The Holy Quran states:

a) “ Are they (i.e. the non-believers) prejudicial to the people (i.e.

the Last Prophet and his Companions) about what Allah has

granted them of His Grace (i.e. a great kingdom). Then (they

may note that) We had already granted the family of (Prophet)

Ibrahim (Abraham) (whose great leader is Muhammad –peace

be upon him) the Book and Al-Hikmah (Wisdom, Sunnah) and

bestowed with them a great kingdom.” (4:54)

b) “ We will surely help Our Messengers and the believers in the life

of this world as well as on the Day (of Resurrection) when the

witnesses will stand (for justice).” (40:51)

c) “ Allah has given a commitment to the believers from amongst you

,who performed good deeds, that He will definitely grant them

Caliphate (power) on earth, as He granted it to those before them,

and will establish for them (the authority of) their religion (of Islam)

that He selected for them, and that He will definitely replace for

them the fear (of insecurity) with tranquility”(24:55)

d) “ The honor belongs to Allah, His Messenger and the believers…”

(63:8)

7. Almighty Allah snatches kingdom from the people because of their disobedience to His Commandments, and thrusts upon them cruel and ferocious rulers, just as they were thrust upon the Jews:

“ …(According to our first promise) We sent upon you (i.e. on the

Jews) Our slaves of a mighty force; they, thus, penetrated deep into

your cities (and crushed you)…” And when Our second promise came

upon, (We permitted your enemy) to make your faces melancholic,

and to enter the Mosque (Al-Aqsa) (victoriously) just as they

entered before (in our first promise) and to destroy it

(creating havoc all over)…” (17:5-7)

8. Warning to the Muslims:

“ …and if you (O’ Muslims) turn away (i.e. if you disobey the

Commandments of Allah and do not spend for the cause of Islam),

He will replace you with others, who then will not behave like you.”

(47:38) (See also 5:54)

The Holy Prophet warned:

a) “ No nation breaks its commitment with Allah and His Messenger

but that their enemy is forcibly imposed upon them.” (Malik –

Mishkat:5136 & Ibn Hashsham, Vol.II, p.775, Ghulam Ali & Sons)

b) “ When the rulers of a nation do not rule in accordance with the Book

of Allah, but thrust their own laws, the rebellions and troubles are

developed in them.” ( Ibn Hashsham, Vol. II, page 775)

c) “ It is quite likely that the allied forces of the non-believers will gather together so as to invite one another for fighting you just as the people invite others for eating towards a (big) dining cup (or a dining table).…You will be quite large in number at that time, but will behave like the turbidity of the flooded water. Allah will extract the awe (and horror) of you from the breasts of your enemy and will create sluggishness in your hearts…This will be because of your love with this world and due to your hatred towards death.”

(Abu Daud, Baihqi - Mishkat:5135)

9. a)To show ungratefulness to Allah’s Favor i.e. to set aside the Commandments of Allah means degradation and destruction:

“ Just ask the Descendants of Israel how many clear Signs (Verses

Proofs) We granted them (and blessed them with Our Favors,

but they showed ungratefulness against all such Favors, and,

consequently, they were degraded and beaten down). And

whosoever changes Allah’s Favor (Verses, Grace) after it

came to him, then, indeed, Allah is quite severe in

inflicting punishment.” (2:211)

b) Almighty Allah does not change the condition of those, who do not change themselves. Or Allah does not help those, who do not help themselves.

“….Indeed, Allah is not going to change His Favor that He has

bestowed on a people unless they themselves change it…” (8:53)

[Also see 13:11]

10. Disunity and differences amongst the Muslims invites destruction:

a) Say: ‘ He (Allah) is All -Powerful to inflict upon you punishment

from above or from beneath your feet or split you into different

warring factions and (thus) make you to taste the might (and horror)

of one another…” (6:65)

b) “ And don’t be like those, who divided themselves and differed

after the clear Signs (Verses) came to them. And they are the

people for whom there is a severe punishment.” (3:105)

[See also 6:159; 3:103; 8:46]

The Holy Prophet warned: “ Do not differ with one another,

since it was because of differences that they were destroyed.”

(Bukhari:4771) (See also Muslim - Mishkat:2391)
