2:285 THE SINCERE BELIEF IN AL-QURAN
“ The (Holy) Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him) (sincerely)
believe in (Al-Quran) that has been revealed to him, and the believers
(i.e. his Companions) too (believe in it sincerely). All of them believe
in Allah, His Angels, His Books and His Messengers. (And they say:)
‘We make no distinction between the Messengers (i.e. we believe in
all of them) [unlike the People of the Book, who believed in some of
them and refuted the others as in 4:150)]’. And they say (also): ‘ We
hear and obey [unlike the Jews, who said: ‘ We have heard, and
we disobey, as in 2:93]. We (believers) seek your forgiveness,
our Lord, and we will return to you.’” *
.........................................
* 1. The Holy Messenger was the first believer. Al-Quran states:
“ Say: ‘ (Holy Messenger)…I have been commanded to be the
first to submit to Allah…’” (6:14) (See also 6:163;10:104;39:12)
2. The Muslims believe in all the Messengers, and are, thus, the custodians of the their teachings.
3. Note that the chapter on Al-Baqarah begins with the words:
“ Muttaqeen (i.e. the sincere Muslims) believe in ‘Al-Ghaib’ (i.e.
Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers…)
Note also that Al-Baqarah ends as above (in 2:285) by certifying that the Companions of the Holy Messenger sincerely believe in all of them.
4. It has been clearly stated in Surah An-Nisa as below:
“ O’ you who believe! Believe in Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad - peace be upon him), the Book (Al-Quran) that He has sent down to His Messenger, and also (believe in) the Book(s) which He sent down before. And whosoever refutes Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, he then has been misled to the farthest extent.” (4:136)
