2:273 THE MOST DESERVING PEOPLE FOR CHARITY

“ The charity is particularly for those, who are held up in the Way of Allah such that they can not move on land (for earning their livelihood). The ignorant considers them as rich for not begging; but you will recognize them from their faces. They don’t beg by sticking to the people. And whatever you spend from your wealth, Allah is surely All Aware of it.”

The Holy Prophet said:

1. “ Whosoever always begs, he will come on the Day of Judgement without any flesh on his face…” (Bukhari:1405)

2. “ By Allah in whose possession my life is, it is better for any of you to get a string for collecting wood and putting it on his back (for selling) rather than begging the people…” (Bukhari:1401)

3. “ The ‘Miskeen’ (the needy) is not the person, who wanders here and for getting a morsel or two (of bread) , but rather the “Miskeen’ is the person who does not have much to become careless (of people) and is ashamed (of begging them).” (Bukhari:1406)

4. “ Whosoever is pleased with Allah on a little livelihood, Allah will be pleased with a little of his deeds.” (Mishkat:5031)

5. “ Any one who assures me that he will not beg, I assure him Paradise…” (Abu Daud, Nisai – Mishkat:1763)

6. Ibn Umar narrated that Allah’s Messenger held my two shoulders and (then) said: “ Live in the world like a poor person or like a traveler.” (Bukhari:6053)
