b) A man asked Allah’s Messenger about the great Verse of the Holy Quran. He replied: “ Ayat-al-Kursi.” The man further asked about the Verse dearer to him. He replied: “ The last of (Surah) Al-Baqarah.” (Darmi - Mishkat:2065)
2:256,257 NO COMPULSION IN RELIGION
2:256 “ There is no compulsion in (the matter of) religion. Indeed, the right has been distinguished from the wrong. Thus, whosoever refutes ‘Taghut’ and believes in Allah, he has held a strong loop that will never break. And Allah is All-hearer, Knowing every thing.”*
2:257 “ Allah is the Supporter of the believers, pulling them out of darkness to light. And those, who disbelieve, their supporters are ‘Taghut’, throwing them out of light into darkness. They are the people of Fire, where they will live for ever.”**

* No Compulsion in Religion:
The above Verse 2:253 has been explained here in 2:256. The following points may be noted in this connection:
1. Almighty Allah rather than compelling the people to accept Islam, has distinguished the right from the wrong through His Prophets and Messengers.
2. The people are at liberty to accept or reject the religion of Islam.
3. In secular states, the religion is considered a private matter. The people are punished for disobeying the Laws of the State, and not for disobeying the Commandments of Allah.
4. Islam, on the other hand, is a way of living. The Islamic State implements the Commandments of Almighty Allah and His holy Messenger, and the believers, who violate them, are punished.
