PART 3

2:253 SUPERIORITY OF THE MESSENGERS

“ These (are the) Messengers (of Allah); We raised (in grades) some of them over the others. To some of them Allah spoke (without any mediation) (such as with Musa), and exalted others to high positions (such as Muhammad – peace be upon him); and We gave clear Signs to Esa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), and supported him by Ruh-ul-Qudus (the Sacred Spirit i.e. Angel Gibraeel)*. And had Allah willed they, who succeeded them, must not have fought after the clear signs came to them. They differed (about the signs or verses) - when some of them believed and the others disbelieved. And had Allah willed, they must not have fought (and differed)**; but Allah does, what he wills.”

*a)Almighty Allah made some of the Messengers superior to others, as mentioned above in 2:253. Not only the Messengers, but the Prophets were also made superior to one another, as mentioned in 17:55. [Note that all the Messengers were the Prophets also, but all the Prophets were not necessarily the Messengers. The Messenger were given Shariah (Laws) and those, who refuted them, were punished.] [Note also that there were 124,000 Prophets, and out of them, 315 were the Messengers. (Mishkat:5490)]. Further, the number of Muslims in the Battle of Badr, was almost equal to the number of the Messengers of Almighty Allah.]

b) Almighty Allah spoke direct to Messenger Musa as stated in 7:143,144; 20:11-36.

c) Messenger Esa (Jesus Christ) was given clear Signs (Miracles) and was supported with Angel Gibraeel. Not that the Prophets were supported by Gibraeel, but the case of Jesus Christ was different, since the great miracles like giving life to the dead was not acceptable by the Jews, who attributed such Signs to his tricks and sorcery. Further, his miraculous birth was also not accepted by them.
