2:249 “ Then when Talut proceeded ahead with his army, he said: ‘Indeed, Allah will test you about a river. Thus, whosoever drinks water from it, he will not be from me; and whosoever does not take it, he is surely from me, except that (in extreme thirst) he just fills the palm ofhis hand (for drinking). Thus all of them drank water (in abundance) excepting a few of them. Then when he (i.e. Talut) and his companions who believed with him crossed the river, some of them (on observing the mighty force of Jalut) said: ‘We are powerless to-day against Jalut and his army.’ But those, who surely believed to meet Allah, said: ‘Often a small group of people has overpowered a bigger (and mighty) group with the Permission of Allah; and Allah is with those, who show perseverance.’”
The Invocations of the Believers:
2:250 “ And when they came out to fight Jalut and his army, they prayed: ‘ Our Lord! Bestow upon us perseverance and keep us steadfast, and grant us victory over the non-believers.” (See also 2:286;3:147)

2:251 “ They, therefore, defeated them with the Permission of Allah, and Daud killed Jalut and Allah granted him kingdom as well as wisdom, and taught him what He willed*. And had not Allah repelled a group of people by another, the earth would have been filled with trouble** ; but Allah is Most Gracious for the entire universe.”
*Prophet Daud (David):
1. Almighty Allah granted Prophet Daud and his son (Prophet Sulaiman) the authority (i.e. Prophet-hood & kingdom) as well as knowledge. (21:79)
