13. Right to get Divorce: The woman has every right to get divorce from her husband. (2:229). It may be noted in this regard that Jameelah, wife of Thabit bin Qais, submitted to Allah’s Messenger : ‘ I do not blame Thabit…, but I just cannot live with him.’* Allah’s Messenger asked her whether she was would return him the garden (given indowry). She replied affirmatively. Allah’s Messenger then ordered Thabit to divorce her. (Bukhari:4972,4973)
* [Note: It has been reported in Zia-ul-Quran under 2:229 that Jameelah did not like her husband (Thabit bin Qais), as he was not a good looking person.]
14. Forgiveness: Both the husband and wife must ignore the defects of each other and show forgiveness. Even in very delicate circumstances such as in divorce, generosity and forgiveness must be exhibited. (2:237; 2:228)
Note: The next Verses from 2:243 to 2:252 again relate to Jihad.
2:243 2:245 FEAR OF DEATH
2:243 “Have you not observed those, who fled away from their homes with the fear of death, when they were several thousand in number. Allah, therefore, commanded them to die. After that, He revived them. Indeed, Allah is Most Gracious to mankind, but most of them are ungrateful.” (See also 62:8; 8:15; 9:38,39,42)
2:244 “And fight in the Way of Allah, and know that, indeed, Allah is All Hearer and Aware of every thing.”
2:245 “Who is the (luckiest) one to offer to Allah a nice loan (for Jihad) so that He may increase it to many times for him? And (it is) Allah (Who) squeezes and increases (livelihood) for you, and to Him you shall return.”
