5. The Best Wealth:
The Holy Prophet
said:
“ The world is all wealth, and the best wealth of the world is the virtuous woman.” (Muslim - Mishkat:2949)
6. The Best Wife: The virtuous women are loyal and protect in absence (of their husbands) which Allah has commanded them to protect (i.e. their chastity, husband’s property etc.)… (4:34)
The Holy Prophet
said:
“ The best wife is the one, whom: (a) if you look at her, she pleases you, (b) if you order her, she obeys, and (c) in your absence, she protects her chastity and your property.”
(Zia-ul-Quran under 4:34) (See also Mishkat: 3132)
7. The Best Husband: “ The best of you are those, who are best (kindest) to their wives.” (Tirmizi-Mishkat:3125)
8. The Rights: “ The women have the rights over their husbands (such as sustenance, protection etc.) just as those of their husbands over them (like loyalty, protection of chastity & wealth etc.)” (2:228)
9. No Suspension: The husband has no right, at all, to keep her wife in a state of suspension. After divorcing her twice, he should either retain her in a nice manner or set her free with kindness. (2:229)
10. No Torture: The husband has no authority, at all, to torture his wife.(2:231)
11. Selection of Husband: The woman has every right to select her husband. The Following may be noted in this connection:
a) Abdullah bin Abbas narrated that a virgin reported to the Holy Prophet
that her father arranged her marriage without her consent. The Holy Prophet gave her the option (of either accepting or rejecting the marriage). (Abu Daud - Mishkat:3001)
b) The Holy Prophet
declared the marriage of Khansa (a widow* and daughter of Khazam Ansari) as ineffective, since it was arranged by her father without her consent. (Bukhari:6564) * (Mishkat:2994)
12.Rejection of Husband: The woman has every right to reject her husband. The following event has been derived from Sahih Al- Bukhari in this connection:
ȁ Bareerah (a slave woman) was married to Mughees (a black slave). She, however, refused to maintain the wedlock, when she was freed. Her husband, on the other hand, was so much in love with her that he cried in the streets of Madina after her. On seeing his pitiable condition, the Holy Prophet(peace be upon him) advised Bareerah to go back to him. She submitted: 'Allah’s Messenger! Is this your order, please.’ The Holy Messenger replied: “ I am just recommending.” She then (respectfully and straight forwardly) submitted: ‘ I just don’t need him.’ (Bukhari:4977-4980)
