RELATIONS BETWEEN WIFE & HUSBAND:
The above Verses of the Holy Quran quite adequately deal with the relationship between husband and wife and family matters. The following important points may also be noted:
1. Adjustment: The husband and wife must make every effort to adjust and reconcile themselves, since the dissolution of marriage is the most unlikable action before Almighty Allah amongst the lawful things, as the Holy Prophet
said. (Abu Daud-Mishkat:3139)
2. Pleasant Living: The husband must show magnanimity in his house hold matters, as the marriage tie lies in his hand. He must live in a pleasant way with his wife, ignoring her shortcomings and hoping for the best from Almighty Allah such as good fortune, excellent off spring etc.(See4:19)
The Holy Prophet
"The believing man must not hate the believing woman (i.e. her wife), since if he dislikes her one aspect, he will surely like her other aspect.”
(Muslim - Mishkat:3102) (See also 2:237)
3. Protector: The husband is not an administrator over his wife, but rather her protector and sustainer (2:237). He has a greater responsibility, as compared to his wife (2:228). The Holy Prophet said:
(a) “ Whosoever is killed while protecting his religion (of Islam), he is a martyr.” (b) “ Whosoever is killed while protecting his own life, he is a martyr.” (c) “ Whosoever is killed, while protecting his wealth, he is a martyr.” (d) “ Whosoever is killed, while protecting his wife (and children), he is a martyr.” (Tirmizi, Abu Daud, Nisai - Mishkat:3373)
4. Food & Clothing: The husband is duty bound to provide food and clothing to his wife, as the Holy Prophet
