It may be noted that when the Quraish violated the Peace Treaty of Hudaibiyah, they soon realized their blunder and sent Abu Sufyan to Madina to revive the Treaty. Abu Sufyan first went to see his daughter, Umm-e-Habiba. However, when he tried to sit on the bed of the Holy Prophet
, she immediately moved the bed-sheet away by stating that he being a Polytheist was dirty, and could not sit on that (pure and sacred ) bed. Such a treatment on her part, of course, not only pinched him, but also shattered his dirty belief in Polytheism.
Nevertheless, the above marriage won the hearts of many members of the important and powerful family of Umm-e-Habibah, and cleared the way for the conquest of Mecca without resistance.
It is interesting to know that Abu Sufyan stopped fighting the Muslims, when her daughter, Umm-e-Habiba, was married to the Holy Prophet
.
Maimunah bint Harith(Rathiyallaho anha')
15. The Holy Prophet
(in 33:50, as stated above) was also allowed to have a wife, who offers herself to him (without a dowry). In this connection, Maimunah daughter of Al-Harith offered herself to marry him without a dowry. Nevertheless, the Holy Prophet(peace be upon him) married her on giving the dowry, and, thus, raised her dignity as well as her family. She was a widow and belonged to a powerful tribe of Arabia. With this marriage, the Holy Prophet, therefore, also won the hearts of the people of her tribe.
Ibn Hashsham has reported that when the Holy Prophet performed Umrah Qad’a in Zi-Qad of 7th Al-Hijrah under the Peace Treaty Of Hudaibiyah, his uncle, Abbas bin Abdul Mutalib, arranged in Mecca the marriage of Maimunah, his sister in law, on 400 Dirham of dowry. It may be noted that Maimunah was the last blessed wife of the Holy Prophet, whom he married, when he was sixty at that time.
16. The wives of the Holy Prophet
belonged to the noble families of Arabia. But in the household of the Holy Prophet, even the basic necessities of life were not available, not to speak of the comforts and luxury, even in the days when he was the ruler of the whole of Arabia and money was pouring into Madina from all directions. And in Mecca, his wife, Khadijah, although the richest lady of Arabia, quite courageously and with great steadfastness stood by her husband
(the Holy Prophet
) during the period of social and economic cut off by the Quraish for 3 years.
