In such a period, she and her children quite often had nothing to eat. Again in Madina, as reported under Bukhari:6094, the ovens of the families of the Holy Prophet remained unburnt continuously for two months, depending mostly on dates and water. In such a state of affairs, when they asked for the share of the abundant wealth that was coming into Madina from the war booty and from other resources, they were plainly commanded in Al-Quran to follow either the simple life style of the Holy Prophet for getting their best reward in the Last World, or to separate them from him on getting their worldly share (33:29). None of the wives of the Holy Prophet, however, separated from him and opted for him and the Hereafter, thus leading a simple life in his sacred and blessed company.

17.The Holy Prophet set an unparalleled example of maintaining justice and equality about the treatment towards his wives. He strictly followed his schedule of visiting with her wives on turn by turn basis, without any deviation. None of his wives could dare to degrade any of his wives. For example, when Safiyah learnt that Hafsa ridiculed her by saying that she was the daughter of a Jew, she started crying. When the Holy Prophet asked about the reason, she stated the remarks made by Hafsa about her. The Holy Prophet encouraged her by saying that she was the daughter of a Prophet (i.e. Haroon), the niece of a Prophet (i.e. Musa), and wife of a Prophet (i.e. Muhammad – peace be upon him)*. He further added: “About which matter, Hafsa is proud of?” The Holy Prophet then commanded Hafsa to fear Allah (on all such matters) (Tirmizi, Nisai-Mishkat:5930)

*[Note: Safia was from the descendents of Prophet Haroon.]

[Further note that Prophets Musa & Haroon were brothers.]

18. Politically speaking, it was through the above marriages that the tribes like Bani Asad, Bani Amir, Bani Adi, Bani Makhzum, Bani Umayyah, Bani Mastaliq, Bani Kulab etc. as well as the Jewish tribes, became close to the Holy Prophet. Geographically, these tribes were spread all over the Arabian Peninsula and , thus, the position of the Holy Prophet was greatly strengthened through such tribal links. These marriages also greatly eradicated thelong enmity existing between the different tribes, and smoothed the way for the people to accept Islam without any fear.
