The Holy Quran states as below, in this regard, the remarks of the Queen of Sheba, which she made on receiving the letter from Prophet Sulaiman (Solomon):

&Verily, the Kings, when they enter a town (or a country)

(victoriously), they create havoc therein, and make the most

honorable amongst them as humiliated (and disgraceful).

And this is exactly what they do.” (27:34)

It was our Holy Prophet only in the entire history of the world, who raised the dignity of the honorable people after over powering them. After conquering Mecca, he raised the status of their Chief and forgave with great generosity all those who expelled him and his followers from their birth town (Mecca) and who waged successive and ferocious battles against them in order to wipe them of from the surface of earth. This was the result of his great generosity and magnanimity that his bitter enemies willingly embraced Islam and became his strong supporters.

Umm-e-Habibah(Rathiyallaho anha')

14. In 6th Al-Hijrah, the Holy Prophet married Umm-e-Habibah daughter of Abu Sufyan, the important chief of Mecca. She and her previous husband, Abaidullah bin Jahsh on accepting Islam quite earlier, migrated to Abyssinia. She was, however, greatly grieved, when her husband accepted Christianity there; but she with great perseverance remained quite devoted to the religion of Islam. When her husband died there, the Holy Prophet recognizing the sacrifices that she made for the cause of Islam and keeping in view her high status as the daughter of Abu Sufyan , honored her by sending a written message to Najjashi, the King of Abyssinia, for arranging his marriage with her, in spite of the fact that her father (Abu Sufyan) was his bitter enemy. Najjashi delivered her the message through her maid, Abraha. On receiving the message, she was so delighted that she handed over to her on the spot the jewelry that she was wearing, and appointed Khalid bin Saeed as her ‘Wakeel’ (lawyer) for finalizing the marriage. Najjashi arranged a grand feast for such a function, inviting Jafar (elder brother of Ali) and other Muslims, and delivered the ‘Khutba of Nikah’ (i.e. the ceremonial lecture relating to the wedlock) announcing the dowry of 400 Dirham. (Umm-e-Habibah later returned to Madina so as to join the Holy Prophet.)
