Zainab bint Khuzaima(Rathiyallaho anha')
8. The Holy Prophet
then married Zainab daughter of Khuzaima, when Her previous husband, Abdullah bin Jahsh was martyred in the Battle of Uhud. She was also known as Ummul Masakeen for her charity and and generosity towards the poor. She, however, died after a few months of her marriage with the Holy Prophet. It may be noted that she was the only wife of the Holy Prophet
after Khadijah, who died in his life time. The Holy Prophet offered her funeral prayer himself and buried her in Jannat-ul-Baqi. She was 33, when she died.
Umm-e- Salma (Rathiyallaho anha')
9. In Shawal of 4th Al-Hijrah, the Holy Prophet
married Umm-e-Salma daughter of Abu Umayyah, after the martyrdom of her husband in the battle of Uhud so as to honor her. She and her previous husband accepted Islam quite earlier, and both migrated to Abyssinia due to the cruelty of Quraish. When they returned to Mecca and decided to migrate to Madina, they were severely tortured. The relatives of Umm-e-Salma forcibly retained her in Mecca, but allowed her husband to migrate. (It may be noted that her Husband, Abu Salma was the first amongst the Muslims to migrate to Midna, according to Ibn Hashsham, Vol.I, p.515). Nevertheless, the relatives of Abu Salma snatched away from her their little son, Salma, by dragging which dislocated his little shoulder. Umm- e-Salma was greatly shocked and cried day and night for a year, being left alone, without her husband and son with dislocated arm. On the mediation of his kind cousin, however, she was given back her little son, and was also allowed to migrate. Umm-e-Salma was quite bravely and quickly saddled her camel and set forth alone with her little son so as to join her husband in Madina, without caring for the robbers on the way.
Umm-e-Salma was also a very wise lady. At Hudaibiyah, after signing the Peace Treaty, the Holy Prophet
commanded his Companions to slaughter the animals and get their heads shaved so as to put off Ihram. Nevertheless, the Companions were reluctant to do so being distressed over the attitude of Quraish for not allowing them to perform Umrah that year. (This was made a part of the Treaty also.) The Holy Prophet then said to his wife, Umm-e-Salma: “ Thrice have I commanded the people to slaughter their animals and get their heads shaved. But look how heedless they are!.”
