A’isha Siddiqa (Rathiyallaho anha')
6. In Madina, the Holy Prophet
first married A’isha daughter of Abu Bakr in the month of Shawal of first Al-Hijrah. She was a virgin of extra ordinary memory and intelligence. It has been reported that Angel Gibraeel brought the picture of Aisha on a piece of green cloth to the Holy Prophet
in his dream for three successive nights and said: ‘ This is your wife in this world and the Hereafter.’ (Bukhari & Muslim-Mishkat:5926). She remained with the Holy Prophet for nine years, and played a great role in spreading Islam before and after his death. She learned many things quickly and was expert in Al-Quran, Hadith, jurisprudence, poetry, arithmetic, medicine etc. She is reported to have narrated 2210 Hadith from the Holy Prophet
. [It may be noted that by marrying A’isha, the relations of Abu Bakr were further strengthened with the Holy Prophet
.] A’isha was the blessed wife of the Holy Prophet
to receive ‘Salam’(peace) from Angel Gibraeel (Bukhari & Muslim-Mishkat:5925) and that from amongst the houses of the wives of the Holy Prophet,it was A’isha’s house only, where Gibraeel appeared with the Revelation. (Bukhari & Muslim- Mishkat:5927)
A’isha(Rathiyallaho anha') was so intelligent that when ever the Companions of the Holy Prophet
were confused about an issue, they asked A’isha, and she surely knew it. (Tirmizi-Mishkat:5932)
Hafsa (Rathiyallaho anha')
7. The Holy Prophet
then married Hafsa daughter of Umar bin Al- khattab in the month of Shaban of 3rd Al-Hijrah. It has been reported that when her previous husband was martyred in the battle of Uhud, his father, Umar, requested Abu Bakr and then Usman bin Affan to marry her. When they refused (probably because of her hot temperament), Umar became angry and in a rage rushed towards the Holy Prophet
and threatened that he would teach Abu Bakr and Usman a good lesson for their refusal. The Holy Prophet tried to calm him down and said: “Perhaps Hafsa has been reserved for some thing better.” Umar was still impatient. The Holy Prophet at last told him: “ Don’t worry. O’Umar! I shall marry her myself.” This, indeed, was a very happy news for Umar. The Holy Prophet
married her on13th Shawal of 3rd Al-Hijrah (Friday).
Hafsa(Rathiyallaho anha') was amongst the very few literate women of Arabia. She could read and write very well and was known for her devotion to prayers and fasting. She held austere principles and was quick tempered, frightening any one going against her. She was quite intelligent and possessed an extra ordinary memory. At least, sixty Hadith have been narrated on her authority.
