2:214 TEST & TRIBULATION
2:214 “Do you think that you will enter the Paradise, whereas you have not so far passed through the conditions as faced by the people before you. Hardships and calamities surrounded them from all over, and they were shattered to such an extent that the Messenger (of Allah) and his companion spoke out: ‘when will the assistance of Allah come?’ Listen! Indeed ,the assistance of Allah is surely near.”
(Note: See also the commentary under 2:155)
Al-Quran states also as below with regard to above:
“Do you think that you will enter the Paradise whereas Allah has not yet
distinguished’ (or tested) those who participate in Jihad and who show
perseverance (in difficulties).”
(see also 2:155; 6:34; 9:16;29:2)
The believers face the difficulties with courage, realizing that these are from Allah (Almighty) and that with such tests they will be trained and strengthened in belief. The Holy Quran states, as below, in this regard:
“And when the believers saw Al-Ahzab (the united army of the enemy),
they said: ‘This is exactly what Allah and His Messenger promised us,
And Allah and His messenger told (us) the truth (about it). And this
(event), (did not discourage them, at all, but) added to their faith and
(created a spirit of ever readiness for) submission (to Allah & His
Messenger).” (33:22)
Note: Since Jihad with wealth and life is under consideration in the previous and the verses ahead, it has been indicated in the next verse 2:215 that the relatives and the needy must not be ignored while spending money in Jihad (i.e. for the cause of Islam).
