11. “ The best life is for the person, who has held the reins of his horse in the Way of Allah (Jihad) and who flies/runs towards his destination. When ever he hears a dreadful and frightening voice, he rushes towards it, ready to be killed…” (Muslim-Mishkat:3620)

12. “… The best deed is to believe in Allah & His Messenger (Muhammad-peace be upon him)… The next is Jihad in the Way of Allah… And further next is Hajj Mabrur (i.e. Hajj without any sin).” (Bukhari:1447)

2: 196-203 HAJJ & UMRAH

(See also commentary on 2:124-129)

2:196 “ And perform Hajj with all requirements for the sake of Allah. But, if (after wearing Ihram) you are held up (by enemy/sickness, and you can not perform Hajj) (then before putting off Ihram so as to be freed from its restrictions in sickness/danger), slaughter an easily available animal; and you should not shave off your head until the animal reaches its destination (i.e. slaughtered)*. And if any one is sick or has trouble in his head (due to lice etc.), he must either fast (for three days) / give charity (to at least six persons equivalent to two kilos of wheat per person) / slaughter an animal (not less than a goat) (before shaving off head)*. But, if you are safe and secured (and reach Mecca before the days of Hajj), then whosoever wishes to get the benefit ofUmrah with Hajj, he must slaughter an animal that he can afford. And if he can not afford, he must fast for three days during Hajj and for seven days on return (to his home). This makes a total of ten days (of fasting). This is compulsory for the person, whose family does not live near Masjid Haram (i.e. he is not the resident of Mecca). And fear Allah much, and remember that, indeed, Allah imparts severe punishment (to those who disobey).”

*(See Bukhari:1717-1720) [Note: When the Holy Prophet was held up by the enemy at Hudaibia, he removed Ihram after slaughtering the animal and on shaving off head. (Bukhari:1717)]
