The above sayings of the Holy Prophet indicate that there is a strong relationship between the lawful earning/eating and the acceptance of prayers. Again unlawful earning results in shameful / unlawful acts like fornication / adultery, alcoholic drinking, gambling. These are, undoubtedly, the acts of the Devil, who gave a challenge that he would spoil the Descendants of Adam by making the unlawful things beautiful to them, and would mislead all of them except the sincere slaves of Almighty Allah. (15:40,41;38:82,83)

ii) The details of 2:172 may be seen in 5:3, where it has been stated that the animal killed by throat strangling, striking… are also unlawful .

iii) In 2:172 above, there is a relaxation under compulsion i.e. in case the life is in danger, the above unlawful are permissible.

iv) There is no relaxation in other unlawful such as alcohol etc, which are totally unlawful. (5:90,91;6:33,152-154). The relaxation is limited only in eating the dead animals, blood and pork, where no other lawful thing is available for eating, and life is at stake. There is no need to evolve any Law of necessity from the above Verse 2:174 for extending it to the other unlawful. It may be noted in this connection that a companion of the Holy Prophet asked about using alcohol as a medicine. The Holy Prophet replied: “ It is not a medicine, but a disease in itself.” (Muslim- Mishkat:3475)

v) Other unlawful are:

a) Shirk (polytheism), murder, adultery/fornication, and shameful acts. (6:33,152-154;25:68)

b) Gambling, alcohol drinking/intoxication. (5:90,91)

c)Interest / usury (2:275-279)

d)Bribery / corruption. (4:29,30;2:128)

e)Trouble making (fasa’d) on earth. (5:33)

In the next Verses, a warning has been issued to those who conceal the facts of the Book.
