In the next Verses 2:166 & 167, the non-believers have been warned that the opponents of Allah (from the people), whom they love and follow, will hate them on the Day of Judgement, and that all of them will receive a horrible torment.
2:166,167 TORMENT FOR THE NON-BELIEVERS
2:166 “ (On the Day of Judgement,) when those (leaders) who were obeyed will
hate those who obeyed them, and they will see the torment (openly);
and for them all relationships will be cut off.”
2:167 “ And those who obeyed (their leaders) will say (on that Day):
‘ If we were to go back (to the world), we will also hate them just as
they have ignored us (this Day)’*. In this way, Allah will show them
their misdeeds as a stock of disappointment for them; and they
will never come out of the Fire (of Hell).”

* They (the non-believers) will say (on the Day of Judgement):
“ Our Lord! We obeyed our leaders and the great people, and they are the those,
who took us away from the Right Path. Our Lord! Give them double the
punishment, and inflict upon them a curse of horrible magnitude.”

In the next Verses, the mankind has been warned not to follow the Devil. It is, in fact, the Devil who is the chief of the wicked leaders instigating the people to worship/obey/love others, eat the unlawful food, commit shameless acts, and stick to ‘Kufr” (disbelief). The Devil and the wicked, whom the people love and follow, are, in fact, the opponents of Allah, who prescribe the unlawful as lawful to them and order them to commit misdeeds.
[Note: The Holy Quran stated in 9:31, that the Jews & Christians made their priests and monks as their ‘Rabb’ (Lord) (since they made the unlawful as lawful for them. In this way, the people, in fact, worshipped (and loved) them (as the opponents of Allah) (See the Noble Quran also under 9:31)]
