2:161 “ Of course, those who disbelieved and died in the state of disbelief,

upon them is the curse of Allah as well as of the Angels

and the people together.”

2:162 “ They will remain there (in the state of curse i.e. in Fire) ,

where the torment will not be reduced for them, nor any relief

(in punishment) will be given to hem.”

Concealing the facts: The people of the Book concealed the facts about the Holy Prophet, Kaba, As-Safa & Al-Marwa as well as the related events. In doing so, they, in fact, violated the promise, which Almighty Allah took from them.

The Holy Quran states in this regard:

“ And when Allah took a commitment from those who were given the

Book to make it (i.e. the coming of Prophet Muhammad-peace be

upon him)* known / clear to mankind, and not to conceal it; but,

instead, they threw it behind their backs, and purchased with it some

miserable gains. And, indeed, worst is that which they bought.” (3:187)

*(See the translation/interpretation of Verse No.3:187 in the Noble Quran.)

Note: Up till here in this Chapter, the Jews were invited and commanded to believe in the Last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Their brief history of repeated disobedience was exposed, so that they might mend themselves. The prayer of Prophet Ibrahim about the coming of the Last Prophet in Mecca, while he was erecting the foundations of Kaba, was also stated. The Verses of this Chapter are so forceful and penetrating that the sincere and God fearing scholars of the Jews like Abdullah bin Salam wholeheartedly accepted Islam. Nevertheless, the majority of the Jews remained as non-believers.

In the next Verses, the most important tenet of Islam i.e. ‘Tauheed’ has been stated as a Reminder for all mankind, so that they may believe in Islam.
