2:158 AS-SAFA & AL-MARWA - THE SIGNS OF ALLAH

2:158 “ In deed, As-Safa & Al-Marwa are the Signs* of Allah; therefore,

whosoever performs Hajj & Umrah, there is no sin on his part [but

instead it is compulsory (Wajib) ] to circumambulate between them.

And, whosoever does a good job, Allah, of course, recognizes it, and

(that) He is All-Aware (of every thing).”

*(See the other Signs of Allah in 5:2;22:32)

AS-SAFA & Al-MARWA:

i) The above Verse was revealed, as the non-believers before Islam

considered the movement (Twaf) between these hills as sin.

(Bukhari:4225)

ii) No one should conclude from the above Verse that there will be no sin, if ‘twaf’between the above two hills is not performed. Ayesha (mother of the believers) on such a question stated that had it been the case, the (above) Verse would have been:

“ Fala Junaha Alaihay An La Yattawwafa Bihima.” (Bukhari:4225)

It means, therefore, that ‘Twaf’ between the two hills is compulsory In Hajj & Umrah.

2:159-162 CONCEALING THE FACTS

2:159 “ Indeed, those, who conceal (from) what We have sent down as the clear Signs as well as the Guidance, after clarifying to the people in the Book, then such are the people, whom Allah and all others curse.”

2:160 “ Excepting those who repent, mend themselves, and expel out

(what they have been concealing) -they are the people whose repentance

I (Allah) will accept; and, indeed, I alone accept the repentance and

I am most Merciful.” (See also 2:79,80,140,159,175;3:99)
