2:145 DO NOT FOLLOW THE NON-BELIEVERS
2:145 “ And even if you bring forth to them (i.e the Jews & Christians),
who have been granted the Book, all types of Verses (Proofs), even
then they will not follow your Qiblah, and you also have not to follow
their Qiblah, at all; and (the fact is that) they themselves do not follow
each other’s Qiblah. And, if you (who listens) follow their desires,
after the knowledge has come to you, you will surely be from
‘zalimeen’ (non believers).”
1.Respect for Kaba/Mecca: A great warning has been given here in 2:145, that if the believers follow the Qiblah and the desires of the People of the Book, they will be bracketed with them as ‘zalimeen’.
The Holy Prophet
said:
“ This Ummah will remain on goodness so long as it continues to respect
the sacredness of Mecca (containing Kaba) to the extent it deserves;
and if they ignore it, they will be destroyed.” (Ibn Majah-Mishkat:2607)
2.Imitation of others: To follow/imitate others means humiliation and degradation. It must be noted that not only our Qiblah is different, but our Laws and Values are also different from others. If we follow others, we will lose our identity, and , accordingly we will forget ourselves. There will then be a great punishment from Almighty Allah.
The Holy Quran issues a warning:
“ And you must not be like those, who forgot Allah (i.e. set aside His
Commandments), and He then made them to forget themselves (i.e. lost
their identity/destroyed)…” (59:19)
The imitation of others invites their slavery and domination.

“ You will be like the previous people… i.e. like the Jews &Christians.”
