| In a world where Digimon were thought to only exist in a computer game or in a deck of Digimon battle cards, three kids--Takato, Henry, and Rika--have discovered the truth about Digimon: they're real! Over the years, Digimon have crossed over into the real world, but it was always covered up by a secret government agency called Hypnos. Run by a mysterious man named Yamaki, Hypnos is determined to delete all of these creatures, good and bad, and the world that they live in. Unfortunately, with so many Digimon appearing all over the city, it's getting even harder for the government to cover up. All of the Digimon have certain reasons for entering the real world. Some Digimon are in search of their Digimon tamers: children who will help them become stronger and digivolve. These Digimon tamers have special digivices called D-Arcs that can enhance, or Digi-Modify, their Digimon's abilities by sliding a Digimon battle card through a slot in the digivice. By sliding a special blue card through the D-Arc, the Digimon can either digivolve to Champion, matrix digivolve (digivolve to Ultimate), or bio-merge digivolve (the Digimon and tamer merge together to digivolve to Mega). Other Digimon, unfortunately, are determined to take over the real world. An evil alliance of powerful Digimon, known as the Devas, are especially determined to take over the world of humans. Now, Takato, Henry, and Rika must travel to the Digiworld with their Digimon to try and stop the Devas before they completely take over both worlds... |

| Takato is a dreamer who absolutely loves Digimon. He plays the battle card game with his friends, Kazu and Kenta, every chance he gets, and he even makes up his own Digimon, Guilmon, who becomes the real thing! Takato lives with his parents in an apartment right above the bakery that his parents run, which makes it easy for him to get food for his hungry Digimon. |
| Henry is a young boy who, like Takato, loves Digimon. He prefers to play the Digimon computer game, even though he's familiar with the card game as well. Henry's Digimon, Terriermon, actually came to him through the computer screen one day when Henry was playing his Digimon game. Henry lives with his father, a computer expert who's partially responsible for creating the Digimon computer game, his mother, and his little sister, Suzie. |
| Rika is a tomboy who hates to dress up. She is known around town as the Digimon Queen since she won the recent Digimon battle card championship. Rika is very serious about her role as Digimon tamer and has problems admitting that she cares deeply for her Digimon, Renamon. Rika lives with her mother, who's a fashion model, and her grandmother in a large dojo-style house. |

| Jeri is a shy girl who is friends with Takato and is secretely a Digimon battle card collector. She is often seen wearing her yellow fox sock puppet on her hand. When Jeri finds out that Takato, Henry, and Rika are real Digimon tamers, she desperately wants to become a Digimon tamer, too. She gets her wish when Leomon shows up and saves her from one of the Devas. Leomon doesn't believe that Jeri could possibly be his tamer until she gets her own digivice and uses it to heal Leomon. |
