Desolate Knight
I wander through the fields of gold,
Wondrous images my eyes behold.
The castle high upon the hill,
The birds are silent, air is still.
I walk up to the castle gate,
Push them open, tempt my fate.
Wonder what is held inside,
Behind its doors, what does it hide.
The breeze now cool, as night it falls,
I step within the castle walls.
Candles dim, they light the way,
On doors of oak, their shadows play.
I hear the ghostly sound of tears,
A sound so lonely to my ears.
Down stone steps, worn with time,
The weeping pulls this heart of mine.
Pennants line the cold stone walls,
Taken in battle when enemies fall.
The melancholy cry, it chills my soul,
The source, this mournful sound, my goal.
Onwards down, I see the door,
My footsteps echo on the floor.
I step inside the dusky room,
I see you sat there, in the gloom.
A Knight in Armour, cold, alone,
These walls your prison, not your home.
Your battles fought, battles won,
Home you came to find the one.
A Queen to share, rule by your side,
When you returned, your Queen had died.
Her love had gone, left you alone,
Within this fortress, made of stone.
I kneel before you, at your feet,
You raise your head, my eyes you meet.
Weep not for love lost to the past,
Find now a love to trust will last.
The fire now flickers, behind your eyes,
The past now gone, said your goodbyes.
I take my Knight now, by the hand,
And stroll with him, throughout the land.
