Nov. 5^th: My arrival day to Pattaya, Thailand.

I was very excited when my plane landed in Bangkok. It was my first trip to Thailand. I have been told that this is going to be a visit to a "men's paradise", where the age is not an issue in romantic relations. So John became my first new friend in Thailand, just few hours after my arrival.

Around six in the evening Nong showed me the area around the hotel. We went to see the Big C which is a large western type two story shopping center shopping center. It is a pleasant place to visit, with variety of restaurants, all kind of stores, a large department store and a giant supermarket, where I bought for us few exotic produces. When we passed through a boutique shop I bought her a bikini swimsuit as a present. It cost me only two dollars, but it made her so happy that she jumped to hug me with a great joy.

Later on I asked her about a place for dinner and she mentioned few possibilities, depending on my appetite. She told me that Thai people usually eat very little and mainly simple and basic food. She even suggested to cook for me dinner with the produce that I bought in the supermarket. When I rejected politely her idea she told me about an "all you can eat" restaurant in the Montien hotel. Each night they serve a different cuisine food and tonight it is a Thai sea food.

Nong also told me that it is one of the more expansive restaurants in Pattaya - ten dollars per person. I decided to spoil ourselves and to spend a whole ten dollars on that restaurant, on my first night in Thailand. The restaurant was emerging from a garden with a huge marble fountain. The dinner included about eight chefs who were offering different type of food to be prepared on the spot. I needed her help to explain each chef the food that I liked and the way I wanted them to prepare it for me. After we made the orders we went back to our seats.

We were served by one of the waiters, a thin guy, who was jumping-running, like a spring in a fast mode between us and chefs. The guy didn't rest for a moment to please us. One time I referred to him as "The monkey" which caused Nong to burst out with an uncontrolled laughing through the entire meal. I learned later that the Thai people like to laugh at any occasion - laughing is a way of life in Thailand.

After dinner we went walking along the beach holding hands and talking. She told me a bit about her life. She is from Udon in the eastern part of Thailand. She is divorced and has a four years old daughter who is living with her parents up there in Udon. She got to see her daughter few times since she came to Pattaya for her studies, a year ago. She found this job at the Dream.Tours travel agency just recently. I found that I am only the third tourist that she is accompanied. I had the feeling that she liked me very much and I felt the same towards her.

When we arrive to the hotel room that night I went first to take a shower. I came out and went to bed only with a towel on me. People watching are one of the main sports there - You sit and watch thousands of people of all nationalities walking by.

We started the tour in the eight story electronic center which is a shopping center - exhibition combination. I bought myself optical glasses at no price. Actually we could travel to any of the traveling sites that Thailand can offer.

On the beach that afternoon, I met my second friend in Thailand his name was Hans. When you are accompanied by an attractive woman, it is easy to make new friends. He was about forty years old.
