Did you wonder about what exactly DRC Unknown Entertainment is? Well, the question will be answered here and now. The history of DRC Unknown Entertainment is one that can be considered quite rich for it consists of all things that have been done in the fields of art, music, and more. The name "DRC Unknown Entertainment" comes from these factors. "DRC" are the initials of my full name. "Unknown" represents the fact that many of these attributes that make up this establishment are unknown to most people. "Entertainment" is self explanatory. The major aspect that keeps DRC Unknown Entertainment going is simple: IMAGINATION. Imagination was the drive for its beginning, and it is the inspiration for the continuation. Here is the history of DRC Unknown Entertainment, Inc.
IN THE BEGINNING... |
| The start of DRC Unknown Entertainment was not perfectly calculated, but conjured up at the right time. When the year 1992 began, I was already having a fun little time expanding on my little talents. During Christmas of 1991, one of the presents I received is a made-for-kids karaoke machine with a radio dial, cassette player, and a nice microphone. This would my best Christmas present of the year (well, next to Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis system). As expected, the toy was being used constantly. With a simple little keyboard that did not belong to me, I made very simple songs and other creations. In truth, this was a childhood tradition that began in the year 1990 (at age seven). Now that I had my own recording equipment, I wanted to record almost anything that I could come up with, and I did just that. One moment that comes to mind (among others) is a Saturday morning in the month of February. I do not know the exact date, unfortunately. On this day, I was watching an ABC News television special entitled "Prejudice: Answering Childrens Questions" (nice little show, but I don't remember much of it now). For some reason, the theme song stuck into my head. It gave me the urge to create something similar. Soon after, I had my little cassette player ready and the keyboard at reach. Now, I am not the kind of person to just sit there and copy another's work. Besides, I couldn't do it with the little equipment I had anyway. However, I did come up with a variated song, and I just started coming up with any kind of lyrics on the spot. I did not write them down, nor were they memorized. They just came to me, and I went with the flow. The result was a song with the theme of denouncing prejudice. These days, I appropriately title the song "No Prejudice". Since then, that was the start of my little "music career" and DRC Unknown Entertainment was born.
Over the next few months, I would create lots of songs, and also record just random moments in life when I would goof around with friends. While I created many compositions, none stood out at the time like that first song did. It is still mostly in my mind to this day. That period was a fun time for me, not only "career-wise" but also my life in general. During the summer and much of fall, I didn't do as much recording or I just don't remember much of it. It was in November 1992 that another memorable song would be created. It was entitled "My Best Friend" and it was about remembering the great times I had with my best friend. Much like my first major song, it was a spur of the moment kind of thing. The lyrics were not written as they only flowed from my head during the recording. I created a simple little melody with a simple beat. The song was a dedication to him, and his family is mentioned too. It was my way of saying how much he meant to me and how much I missed him since moved away from my old neighborhood back in August of that year. In all, songs were created, erased, forgotten. It wouldn't be until the end of the year when I would actually create a so-called "full album". |

It was Christmas Day 1992, one of my best Christmas days ever. Among other gifts, I received a new Casio Rapman keyboard, and an actual radio complete with a casette deck and a built-in microphone. It was just what I needed to really do what I wanted to do. Those two presents were my favorite (next to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis). Getting the Rapman was a major step up for me. I felt like I was in the big time now! I became a musician...more or less, but not immediately. I think the first thing that I recorded was a little audio advertisement for my newly received Sonic 2 game and other Sega stuff. I was being a cheap, unofficial spokesperson. I would do projects like that for many years. Shortly after Christmas, my cousin came to my house for a sleepover. Since we both liked creating stuff on the spot (and acting a fool), we just immediately started making music together. We created many songs on the spot. That was one of the many enjoyable moments that was experienced, and thus DRC Unknown Entertainment was really put on the map. The recordings we have done continued for a few years with another "album" in 1993 and other stuff here and there. |
Here is a random recording session taking place back in early 1993. I was ten years old at the time. I am using my Rapman keyboard and my little radio. Also, the television screen is displaying Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis system. Back then with my little equipment, I was on top of my game. |
Even though I had a musical partner for a short time, I always recorded for myself. In 1995, I have attempted to make an album of songs once again. This is when my imagination would kick in. I had a music career. I thought of many songs to create. By this time, I moved on up with better equipment again. This time, it was a Kawai 16-bit keyboard from a friend. I did not totally abandon the Rapman keyboard at this time though. The Rapman served as a companion to the other keyboard for a little while. I tried to make good compositions. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I didn't. Over the years, I've always had the passion to create music, but limitations held me back. In 1998, I upgraded again to a Yamaha PSR-79 keyboard and received a karaoke machine on Christmas Day. At that time, I felt like much of that limitation would be lifted. However, I was wrong. Many of my imaginative works could not be properly recreated on that keyboard, but I tried.
By the middle of the year 2000, I started using a personal computer to aid me in making compositions. During that time, the computer that was in the household was severely dated as it was a Packard Bell 486 processor computer that was bought in 1996. With the outdated hardware and simple software, only short, low quality samples were made. Still, it allowed me to posess additional skills of music making with the aid of extra technology. During the last quarter of the year, I experimented with better music editing software on a roommate's computer in college. Many months later into the new year, I would continue that experimentation as the household was graced with a new computer. Since then, my music skills would elevate, but the consistency of music making would fluctuate. In 2001, I was still creating only short samples, but I was slowly broadening my possibilities. The standout composition of that time would be a little jingle that I would like to call "The Spotlight", created on July 3, 2001. Thanks to the computer (with its software and extra sounds) and my keyboard, I created something that I liked and sounded close to how I envisioned it.
2002 would mark the tenth anniversary of DRC Unknown Entertainment, and it would be during that time that I decided to get serious with music making once more. I wanted to return to the tradition that I have started ten years before. With the newly gained motivation, thanks to recently discovering one of my friends being into making music, I started composing songs for myself. Since then, while I have not been as consistent as I have been a decade earlier, I was able to prove to myself that I could create full-length songs that were of high quality.
THE BUILDING OF THE EMPIRE... |

In the early days, creating audiobooks was another favorite activity of mine. Here are two subjects of my audio recordings: Sega's "Sonic the Hedgehog" comic books by Archie Comics and "The Silly Sisters" by Dave Werner. |
In 1993, I had other audio interests besides making music. Early in the year, I started buying Archie's then-newly released "Sonic the Hedgehog" comic books. They were fun to read, but I started taking it to the next level. I converted the comics into audio treats. I recorded myself reading the actual comic books from beginning to end. I imitated all of the characters' voices (as best as I could), and I created the music with my keyboard to go along with it...all in real time. It was challenging work, but since it was not elaborate production, it was not as difficult as it probably could have been. I have also done recordings of my own storylines and the like. This tradition would continue up until 1997. One moment I recall is back in the summer of 1996 when I created an audio recorded of the book "The Silly Sisters" by Dave Werner. It was atrocious, but perfect since the actual story was ridiculous as well. Making "audiobooks" is one area that I will like to get into again, and that might be done sometime soon.
Now, another major section of DRC Unknown Entertainment that thrives would be in the art field. Back in the day, I used to create lots of artistic material since the inception. For starters, I drew lots of pictures. Then, I also wanted to draw my own books and magazines in my spare time. The first little project under DRC Unknown Entertainment was conceived in 1993. It was a little book I called "Sonic the Hedgehog 2: The Story" based on the hugely successful Sega Genesis game. It took a while to complete, but the results were somewhat impressive. Over the years, I also had my little attempts of creating Sonic comics. None of them were ever finished though. The most interesting thing I've done was the creation of a Sega video game magazine. This started back in 1994. I drew and wrote everything by hand from the cover to the articles, advertisements, game reviews, and everything in between. That was an ambitious project. Of course, I could never keep up with it, but periodically between 1994 and 1996 I made a few issues. In 1996, I've attempted to make a book adaptation from my favorite episode of one of my favorite television shows: "Fudge". I believe it was one of the few episodes that was not based on the original books in the Fudge series by Judy Blume. Once again, a promising project, but never completed. My most recent book project started back in 2000. It is a sequel to the children's book "Bony-Legs" by Joanna Cole. It is entitled "The Return of Bony Legs: Double the Trouble". My intention was to have a story similar to the first one with a few twists and different characters. It would be an illustrated book. The story was written in the Summer of 2000, and was pretty much completed. I also did a rough conceptualization on its cover at that time. In 2001, I fine tuned the story a little with hopes of actually working on it more. Since then, the project stalled. However, it might be revived soon because it is a project that deserves to be completed.

DRC Unknown Entertainment is involved in television as well (or so I imagine). In September 1994, the television division was created in anticipation of launching a television channel that would collect all of (what I believe is) the best television shows with other viewing treats and place them in one network. This network would emphasize on the one word that can lure potential viewers: FUN. Therefore, the channel's call letters were aptly named with the word 'fun' in it. The channel known as WFUN-TV Channel 54 was born. This channel was launched appropriately and could not fail. First, it was launched on a Saturday morning, which many consider to be a fun day. Second, with the main audience being kids, there had to be fun programming available. Well, here's how it was really developed. I had a decent collection of video cassettes with my favorite programs and movies recorded from over the years. If I was running a television station, everything that I liked would constitute that one station. That is how this station was really born...so to speak. The channel launched with a showing of the 1982 movie E.T. Since then, WFUN Television went into full force. While WFUN-TV is the spot for the current favorite programs, the major charm of this station is that it is home to some of the best programs that are no longer on air. While this channel is mostly for kids, it is not exclusive to them. We have worthy content for all young demographics. Whatever your favorite programs were/are, chances are that Channel 54 housed them. From 1994 up to now, WFUN-TV has aired the best shows, movies, and special events. This is truly a television station worth watching (if it really existed). WFUN-TV was so successful that a few months later a radio station was also in the works. In January 1995, WFUN 105.1 FM was born. In the beginning, the radio station was a healthy balance of music and talk radio. By July 1995, WFUN-FM became the home to audio recordings of popular storybooks for kids. By 1996 and up to now, WFUN-FM's true essence was sealed. It was an all-purpose radio station featuring the best in music, stories, talk forums, and whatever else that can be hosted audio-wise. Like WFUN-TV is worth watching, WFUN-FM is a radio station worth listening to (if it really existed). |
THE KINGDOM ON THE WEB... |
DRC Unknown Entertainment travels its way into the Internet. The first row of pictures on top are of DRC Unknown Entertainment: Version 1.0 (from May 2002 through January 2003). The second row of pictures on bottom are of DRC Unknown Entertainment: Version 1.5 (from February 2003 through mid January 2004). |
| Thanks to computer technology, the Internet, and the wonders of the World Wide Web Now, I was allowed to do something that has been triggering my curiosity for quite some time. If materialized, it had the ability to make DRC Unknown Entertainment appear in all of its glory. Since 1996, I imagined having some kind of a website since a computer first inhabited in my house back in February. However, it was not until May 2001 that I would actually test the website making process. For months, I was able to prove to myself that I could actually make a website, but it was not the website that I truly wanted to make. In May 2002, I decided to go at it again, and this time I had a clear goal in mind: to visualize DRC Unknown Entertainment into what I want it to be. Still a novice in website design, I did not have a clear focus as to what I wanted to display. Yet, by the end of that month, I felt like I was ready to show it off on some level. In June, the DRC Unknown Entertainment website was declared as open for the public, and it has been active since. |
THE PRESENT AND FUTURE... |
|
From 1992 up to now, DRC Unknown Entertainment has experienced many developments. Where does it go from here? Well, anywhere. Music is still being created. Artwork is still being made. The website is still being maintained. Through it all, DRC Unknown Entertainment has evolved into its desired empire, but it won't stop now for there is more to be done. As long as I keep visualizing and dreaming, DRC Unknown Entertainment will continue its evolution. Everything that I have done is the representation. The conceptions will continue to grow and develop through the continuation of my belief of the whole empire. DRC Unknown Entertainment is where the imagination carries on. |
