Why from wailing of bitter thou ever retreat?
Why always teasing wounds of the grieved?
Oh Beloved! Every morn that rises in the East
Beseech You! Fresh and luminous Sun as feast
Excuses to thy lovers are but false requisite,
O Beloved, sweetness of thy lips is exquisite,
The world is rapidly staling, but Thy soul ever new
Listen to bodiless soul, soulless body cry and hew
Oh heart! Do not indulge in details of flower
Commence with nightingale, suffering of the hour
Our passion is not linked with grief or happiness
Bound with doubtful reason, is not consciousness
This state is different, exquisite in itself, relate,
Do not deny, Allah is Supreme, if thou estimate
Do not wonder at earthly states in presence
Fixing thyself to adversity and benevolence
Hardship, Justice, happiness and grief are passing
Do annihilate, returning to God all His belonging
(12)
Oh Lord of morning and dusk, its the time.
Bear excuse to my friend Hassam-ud Din
(13)
Thou the Ultimate Wisdom, The Magnanimous
Thou art the spirit of Soul; the corals luminous
Thy Light our morning do illuminate
Mansoors draught me too intoxicate
(14)
Gods benevolence has kept me in state
How can but wine dares me intoxicate
The wine but begs our passion
The sky is ever lost to our reason
The wine made wanton by us, and not we
(15)
Body has been made for us, we not for body
We are the Bee and the body like wax
Divided in holes like Bee-hive, body tax
(12 ) Extortion, fairness, grief and happiness are temporary states of mind. One must strive harder to rise above them to seek Allahs console.

(13) There have been certain delays in writing of the Masanavi, and Rumi is apologizing from Hassam-ud Din, his friend who had motivated him to write it and also served as his secretary in keeping record of the written material.

(14) Saboohi is used for morning breeze as well as draught of wine. It is the Mansoor al-Hallajs intoxication that is affecting Rumi too.

(15) The means are not the ends; intoxication is a state, a medium to find truth, not the truth itself. See more on intoxication.
