Bethena took her family back to Missouri by ox team in time to be counted in the 1860 Census in Grants Hill, Gentry Co., MO, where she is found with her mother, and near to brother Patterson. Perhaps the Comanche troubles in Parker County may have had something to do with her haste, but she had to have been a woman of great courage to have made that trip, which would have taken her right through the heart of Indian Territory at a time of great peril. She married Andrew Cox in Missouri, and at some point before 1875 she and those of her children still surviving went to California. Andrew died about 1891 Willows, Glenn Co., CA. Bethena died 25 DEC 1910 in Corning, Tehama Co., CA, where she is buried. Side note: Bethena's granddaughter, our Daisy, graduated from Corning High in 1911. thanks to Regina Barry for sharing her research on the Cadles and especially on Margaret McKnight!!! |

One of Margaret's sons was the editor of this paper, but I don't know which one just yet. It would be nice to know, and if possible acquire issues of it, as it has a good deal of family information in it under a special section called "Family Affairs". Any information about this periodical or its editor would be appreciated. |

| Family story: I remember Grandma Daisy telling me that two of her relatives (an uncle and another) had crossed Donner Pass on foot just a few years after the Donner Party, and that the Donner site was still as the survivors had left it. She never told me that I remember the names of the men who had made that trek as the names wouldn't have meant anything to a child so young anyway. One of them must have been Austin, who was the only uncle to survive beyond 1860. Or Grandma Daisy may have been referring to her granduncle, Abraham Cunningham, who made at least one trip to California before settling down in Shingletown in 1874. See Samantha Patience Cadle. |
