After the loss of Lydia and Jane, on the advice of the doctors, the family moved to Riverside CA, in the hopes of saving the rest of the children. The only treatment available for "consumption" or tuberculosis was to move to a warm dry climate. They arrived in Riverside in November of 1901. AW contracted typhoid fever and died less than three years after their move. All in all, his widow Margaret lost 6 children and her husband in just over 10 years.
AW's uncle Joseph Luna Coleman had moved to California earlier, before 1900. He married Lena Linder in Los Angeles County, and they made their home in Monrovia, L.A. Co., CA. Margaret's brother-in-law and sister, Jefferson and Mahala McKinney Carville moved to Riverside also.

Son James married Mattie (Herrington?) in Riverside, sometime after 1930. He was a farmer in Riverside. There is a street running through Riverside today named after him that runs through the land that used to be Jim's farm. He and Mattie had no children.
Daughter Hattie married Harry Gordon Tuell in 1912 in Riverside. She and Harry had several small businesses over the years. They had no children. Harry died in Riverside at the age of 92.
Son Joseph Lewis met Daisy Irene Parkinson in Chico, Butte Co., CA. They were married 15 May 1914 in Chico, Butte Co., CA. Daisy was born 29 Jul 1892 in Colusa County, CA. She had just graduated from Chico State Normal School, and taught a term before their marriage. Their eldest child Agnes was born in Chico. They moved back to Riverside, where Portia and Joseph Wayne Coleman were born. Joe contracted a blood infection that eventually caused his demise, although his cause of death may have been listed as heart failure.
