My name is Gail-Marie and I would like to introduce you to my chapter of Victims of Homicide. I hope you will find the following information useful and maybe find a little peace in knowing that there are others who  understand and care about the survivors of homicide
Lives are forever changed when we lose a loved one to homicide.  Learning that a loved one has become a victim of homicide is the most devastating event of your life. The loss, pain and confusion can  be so overwhelming that it can leave you physically and emotionally drained. This will be the longest and most painful journey you will ever face.
This a grief like no other.....it will not be a private grief as there will be Police involvement and possible media coverage. If the suspect is caught and arrested  there will be lawyers, court, and of course the  accused's rights. There is no right or wrong way to deal with this grief. Just as each person had a unique love for the deceased , this grief will also be unique. There is no time limit or guidelines to follow  although some people will expect you "to get on with life " We all do the best we can and in our own way cope as best as we can at the time. Somedays will be horrible and somedays will be a little easier, but we will never be who we were before this horror struck without warning. Remember that we as survivors of homicide are all taking this journey together.
My Goals for this Chapter;  being available to families immediatly following the homicide. Attending police interviews and court hearings/trial with family. Dealing with media coverage. Just being available for whatever is needed.  Sometimes just having someone to talk with can help.
Although my ultimate goal is to not have any new members in this group .
