Throughout DBZ, we know of a Z-Warrior named Piccolo. His origin dates back to the Dragon ball series. We will now give you his origin.
Kami came to the Guardian's Palace, in hope of being granted permission to be the next guardian of Earth. However, the guardian said, "no, there is a dark side in you". Kami knew he would have to get rid of this dark force, in order to become the next guardian. After intense training, Kami released this dark force, and it plagued the vast planet of Earth. This force was known as Piccolo Daimao. Piccolo Daimao would stop at nothing to destroy the Earth, and anything that got in his way. Until he met a boy, with superior powers to his own. This boy was known as Goku. After a fierce battle, Goku flew right threw Piccolo Daimao's chest. In order to preserve himself, Daimao spit up an egg, which held the being known as Ma Junior, or Piccolo. Daimao then exploded, never to return. The egg hatched, and the being Piccolo grew into a man. He met up with Goku at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai. It was a fierce battle, but his foe Goku, beat Piccolo and took home the title of World's Strongest Fighter. Piccolo and Goku became friends then, fighting to protect the Earth. They have their own legacy, and it lives on.
