Venezuela

This is the view from the beach, overlooking the lake at Canaima. It is in the south east of Venezuela. It is undoubtedly a beautiful spot, drawing many international tourists. The village itself, behind the picture is expensive. Most stay for a night, then head up river to the Salto Angel.

The capital of Venezuela is Caracas. It is a peculiar capital city in that it has little to offer the traveler. I arrived in the district of Sabana Grande, to seek a hotel and pass a night before my next connection to another part of the country. This picture shows the main thoroughfare of Sabana Grande, lined with shops and restaurants. Take care at night walking alone!!

This shot is taken from the 4, 942m summit of the Pico Humboldt. It shows the neighboring peak of the Bonpland at 4,883 meters. The climb to the summit of the Humboldt is an exhilarating experience, taking 8 hours to summit and descend. The Venezuelan Andes are accessible due to the proximity of the city of Merida. I joined a four day trek to this summit from Merida.
