Argentina

In the south of the country is the vast, wind swept district of Patagonia. It was once
covered by a sea. If you look closely at this picture, you can see the fossilized remains of that sea. The fragments of shells and sea creatures are
interspersed with other fossils, in which Argentina is rich.

This highly decorated church and tower is in the northern city of Salta. Salta is in the Argentine Andes, and can be used as a base for horse riding or trekking. Argentine architecture is a mixture of colonial Spanish and various European styles. The Italian immigrants, who are the largest ethnic group, have particularly added to this culture.

This photo was taken at 2000 meters in the glacial district of Patagonia. It is called Lago de la Tres, and is in the shadow of the Fitz Roy mountain. Mountaineers return to Patagonia because of the challenging conditions and the spectacular nature of the climbs. The Fitz Roy is an imposing vertical peak, rising to 3500 meters, requiring high technical skill to climb.
