The first part of the arts section is an art gallery. I have selected the pictures to be stimulating and diverse. I hope that you enjoy them. Get in touch if you have any questions.

The painting of Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947), stands out due to his use of color. The way that he applied color makes the pictures come to life and shine with an inner luminescence. He produces a shimmering field of effect. The subject matter that he chose reflected domestic obsession in contrast to his compatriot Matisse, who sought more exotic material.

The line drawings of Aubrey Beardsley, suggest a playfulness and character which I find appealing. This piece, entitled, The Death of Pierrot, and drawn in 1896,  has the elements of theatre at the turn of the last century. Aubrey Beardsley´s style does imply decadence, yet this decadence gives light and energy to social life. The grace and easiness with which his figures are expressed, brings delight.

This is a section from a perhaps more sinister masterpiece. It is from The garden of delights by Hieronymous Bosch (1450-1516). Bosch manages to paint a religious picture that stands out from the majority of medieval religious pieces by the extent of the transfiguration and his clear love of invention. Flowers grow from places that they do not usually spring from. Dancers are physically joined with thorns.Animals appear, out of proportion and juxtaposed.
