The fine arts are also exploring other areas in addition to masks and making machines. This is a textile design by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1920) called, Odalisque. This Scottish artist shows the way in which the design of fabrics may pick up on the latest trends in the visual arts and use them in other forms of production. Mackintosh made a reproducible design that reflected the singular, driven state.

The last painting in the selection is a view over Quito called Quito Verde, 1942. The artist, Guayasamin has found great fame in Ecuador, and his pictures now decorate the government buildings in Quito. His dramatic and ominous style exaggerates the way in which Ecuadorian society lives in the shadow of volcanoes in the high Andes.

That is the end of the art gallery. In hope that you enjoyed it. The next part of the arts section is devoted to films. I have included several of my favorite directors and films for discussion.

This classic Francis Ford Coppola film is a must. The atmosphere is unrelenting as the plot reveals the gristly fate of a military assassin. The way in which the novel, Heart of Darkness was interpreted, keeps to the original intentions of Joseph Conrad, whilst placing the story in recent history. Coppola brilliantly explored the madness of the American war of Vietnam. The characters such as the surfing captain or Kurtz deliver unremitting schizophrenia, and demonstrate the American dream turned psycho.
