Here it is! The Oz Top 25 Countdown for the week ending March 30, 2002.
This has been a very tight week. I wasn't sure who was going to be number one until today and even then it was close. In fact the whole top 10 was very close this week so let's get started!
Oh My God!! A song actually stays on top for more than one week! Yes, it finally happened. After more than two months, a song has managed to spend more than one week in a row at the top of the charts. Back in January Britney stayed at the top for 2 weeks with I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman and this week Darren Hayes begins his second week atop the charts with Insatiable, the debut single from his album Spin. The song, as well as the album have taken some getting used to, but I am really getting to like the album. So far my favorite tracks are Crush (1980 Me) (THIS BETTER BE THE SECOND SINGLE!!), the afformentioned Insatiable, Heart Attack, I Miss You, and Strange Relationship. Overall the album doesn't stray too much from where Savage Garden was, so fans should be pleased.
This weeks top debut is from Toya. No Matta What (Party All Night) is the follow up to I Do!! which hit the top 10 back in December. Her latest has already eclipsed the success of I Do!! The next debut had me in sort of a dilema. While it is techniquely an ablum track, I decided to allow Tightrope by Kylie Minogue to chart based on the fact that it was the UK B-Side to her latest UK single, In Your Eyes (a former number one here). The fact that DJ's are known for creating chart hits out of B-Sides and after a little talking to by Craig ;) I decided to let it chart. Don't expect to see this happen to often!
At number 14 is What's Luv? by Fat Joe featuring Ashanti. I will admit that this isn't my favorite style of music, but the song does have a good synth line! At number 17 is the debut hit by Res. They Say Vision isn't the first single from her debut album How I Do, but it's definitely her best single to date. After bubbling under for the LONGEST time, Michelle Brach FINALLY debuts with the follow up to her number 2 smash from last summer. This is a great song, it just has been sitting on the back burner for AGES! Anyway, it finally gets the debut it deserves. Finally at number 19 is the second chart hit for the Dandy Warhols. Last December they just scratched the countdown with Bohemian Like You. The song would have been a bigger hit before the charts restarted, but had to settle for only making number 20. Get Off has already proven to be a bigger hit on this chart.
Cher grabs this week's biggest mover award by rocketing up 11 spots to number 9 with the second single from Living Proof. The more I hear this song lately, the more I think she has a chance to have another number one. Only time will tell. It sems that Alcazar can't get past number 5. They have been stuck there since they debuted there 5 weeks ago. It is still a fvaorite of mine, so there is still a shot that it will make it higher. Many songs this week take backwards steps even though I'm liking them more and more. Most notable the songs by Furtado, Dion, and Ian Van Dahl. Look for these songs to make moves back up next week. Speaking of falling, this week's biggest faller is by Garbage. After spending the last few weeks at number 13, they finally move back 12 spots with Breaking Up The Girl.
Well that's all for this week. There is a tight race in the top 5, so check back next week to see who's number one and who falls off!
Until then ... |
