Lục Tổ Huệ Năng Đại Sư

Pháp Bảo Đàn Kinh - Chương 6

 Người mê muội, phước cầu đạo phế

Tu phước điền dối kể đạo mầu

Thí cúng nhiều, phước được trùng thâu

Nhưng ba ác, tâm đầu sanh mãi

Tưởng tu phước, tội trừ ác cải

Sau phước lành, tội lại còn sanh

Ngó trong tâm, gốc lổi trừ, thanh

Tự tánh phải chơn thành sám hối

Phép sám hối đại thừa lãnh hội

Cải tà quy chánh, tội không sanh

Học Đạo thường xem tánh tịnh thanh

Tức cùng Phật cũng thành nhất loại

Phép Đốn Giáo tổ ta truyền dạy

Nguyện chúng đồng đặng thấy tâm nguyên

Pháp thân nay, mong đặng thấy liền

Lìa pháp tướng, tâm điền trong lặng

Gắng thấy tánh, đừng lòng xao lãng

Niệm sau lìa đời, hết phế vong

Hiểu đại thừa, thấy đặng tánh Không

Phải cung kính, hết lòng cầu học
 

Great Vehicle Repentance Sutra

The Six Patriach Hui Neng

Pháp Bäo Ðàn Sutra – Chapter 6

Deluded men cultivate merit and ignore the Way.

And they believe that cultivating merit is the Way.

Though their merit from charity and worship is boundless,

But their three evils roots lurking in their minds keep generating without any hindrance.

When you try to dissolve sin by cultivating merits,

You'll gain fortune in after-life, but the sins still remain (and you’ll pay for those sins later).

Just turn within your mind and remove sin’s preconditions

And in your self-nature performs the true repentance

Now you learned the Great Vehicle’s true repentance way:

Get rid of wrongs, practice rights, then you will have no sin.

In learning the Way, always observe and look carefully into your self-nature dharma,

since it’s not different than all of Buddhas’s.

Our patriarchs only transmitted this “Sudden” doctrine

Wishing all sentient beings be able to see their original Buddha essence.

If you wish hereafter to see the Dharma Body.

Make an effort to see your true essence; Don’t be discourage and don’t let down your effort

Until the last thought when your leave this world, you truly escape the circle of birth and death.

To understand the Great Vehicle is to know that “The true essence of all things are like Void”

So with all of your effort, respect and venerate this doctrine, and study all related Great Vehicle doctrines.
