California Vacation 2000

June 3 - 9, 2000

Day :  1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Day 1 : June 3, 2000

After a long flight, Josephine, Theresa, and Hangoo are sitting outside the San Francisco International Airport as we all wait for Brian, Debby and Ed to get the rental vans.

This is Linda standing beside our stuff as we are claiming our baggage.

Still waiting...and waiting...and waiting for the vans.  A few of us change into warmer clothes since the weather in San Francisco is very cool.  Finally after more than an hour of just waiting at the curbside the vans come.  We load up and head off to our first destination.

We are two WILD and CRAZY guys cruisin' down the California highway.  We head to San Jose where we'll meet our "tour guide" Albert all the while passing through Silicon Alley.

After making our way to the San Jose through Silicon Valley to the Korean Incubator Conference, we were all very grouchy and wanted to eat.  We went to eat at the Pho Queen.  Although not the best Pho we have ever had, it was an experience in itself to go there.  And for those of us who weren't satisfied, we went directly to Taco Bell afterward which was next door.  =P

Sitting inside of a courtyard area in Stanford University.  The architecture here is so beautiful.  It's no wonder when we came here there were several wedding shoots taking place while we were there.

Also within the courtyard was a bunch of statues.  Of what...I don't know but we thought it'd look cool if we did our own poses. I don't know why but I like to point.

While we were touring the Stanford campus we decided to hit one of the more popular sites during the school year, Jamba Juice.  From left to right is Hannah, Jenie, Josephine, Albert, Careen, and Theresa.

Here we all are except for Jenie who is taking the picture.  We are sitting in front of a water fountain sculpture.  That big black ugly thing in the back is the sculpture.  If this water fountain were at Carnegie-Mellon, it would look a lot better   =P

Sitting on the lawn at the end of University Drive or is it Palm Drive?  Either way I'm just trying to soak up some of the California sun-shine.

Here is a B&W group picture taken by Jenie at Vista Point beside the Golden Gate Bridge.  B&W doesn't do this scene justice as you will see in the picture below.

Brian and me...or is it I?  The building between us and then Golden Gate Bridge is the same location of a fort that used to protect the bay area.  The cannons that were used had a firing range of a mile.  To the right of us is Alcatraz as you can see in the next picture.

Here is a picture of myself and in the background you can see "THE ROCK" the island of Fort Alcatraz which as we all know was eventually turned into a high security prison.  This fort was used to guard against enemy ships which sits inland of the Golden Gate.

Here you can see the cross-section of a cable used.  You can't see the sign clearly in the picture but the diameter of this cable is 26.4 inches and is composed of 27,572 wires smaller wires inside of this main cable.  A total of 80,000 miles of wires were used.

Here I am at the coast.  I think this place was called the Cliff House.  It used to be part of a public bathing facility which was destroyed early in the 1900's.
