| Did you ever wonder if there really are things that go bump in the night? Do you remember being terrorized by a monster under the bed that reached out a claw every night to strike at you? What if all of those fears were real? What if there was a world hidden from our view that only a few intrepid souls could see? That is the world of D20 Modern. |
| Our story revolves around individuals who know that there is more to the world than meets the eye. They have experienced paranormal activity on a grand scale. They've not only seen the monster in the closet, they sent it back to hell...literally. What would the lives of these defenders of humanity be? Would they be altruistic paladins seeking justice or money grubbing opportunists looking for the big score? Whatever the case may be, D20 modern allows the Player to take on such a role while still functioning in the mundane world. Our agency, "Morning Star Detective Agency", began as an insurance fraud investigation business. In their dealings, they soon found that there was more to life than meets the eye. Now, the reputation of the company has spread and the operatives have become more diverse, specializing in areas of occult lore. Currently the party consists of: Julia - Owner and financial backer of the group. Julia is often the brains of the operation, using her impressive set of knowledges of the strange and unusual to solve the crimes. Speciality: Arcane Knowledge Max - Max is co-founder of Morning Star and is the muscle that keeps things moving. Max is also a skilled linguist and is one of the few characters that actually possesses a magical item. Speciality: General Occult Knowledge Father Bobby - Sent by the Vatican from Los Angeles, Father Bobby is Rome's offical agent in New York City. Father Bobby is part of an obscure and elite organization sent to keep humanity safe from the creatures of the Netherworld. He has an impressive list of contacts and can surf like nobody's business. Speciality: Demonology & the Spirit World Mario - A former mafia courier, Mario was accidently blessed by a holy book and now radiates an aura of goodness. His former allys turned against him and Mario decided that the only choice he had was to join Morning Star in hopes of making a living. Speciality: Vampires and the Undead Jerry - Jerry's character is a migrant worker who has wandered across the U.S. and Mexico in his lifetime. He experienced a great deal of bizarre activity. The firm has found him very useful as both a source of information and a window washer. Speciality: Local Myths and Legends Zach - Zach's character is the muscle behind the party. He is, for all intent and purpose, a street samauri that serves to protect Julia. Although he is not sure why, he was guided by spirits to join the agency. A great underlying mission must await him. Speciality: Asian Mythology and Demonology Decker - The odd little computer hacker appeared one day on the agency's steps. Although he does not talk about his previous life, it is estimated that he is about 15 years old and never seems to attend school or go home. The group has unofficially adopted him because of his valuable service surfing and hacking as well as his ability to run to Starbucks and return in under 30 minutes. Speciality: Research |

| Contacts: The group has several individuals who are totally outside the normal world. These act as informant, guide, sage, and often as sources of great information that is otherwise unknown. They are: Mickey - Mickey owns an occult bookshop downtown. He never seems to leave or sleep. Mickey knows a little about everything in the hidden world and at least someone in every single mystic circle. Mickey is very bribable with Magic: The Gathering cards. He is good natured and seems to like helping out the cast of Morning Star. He may even have a crush on Julia. Louie - Louie is a bartender and perhaps owner of "The Vortex", a nightclub catering to those paranormal creatures in New York City. Louie has horns and a tail but is not, in fact, evil. Hong Kong Qan - Qan is an ex-arms dealer who now specializes in the sale of magical ingredients as well as 'speciality' meats. Besides this, he has an impressive stable of hookers that he refers to as his "nieces". He caters to celebrities and seems to know a lot more than he should. Jonathan - Julia's boyfriend and the head night shift coroner for the county of New York. Interestingly, Jonathan is over 150 years old and a ghoul. |
