| What Happens at the Meditation Class?
Quite often someone will call and ask 'What happens at the meditation class?', before they actually come along to experience it for themselves. In this short article, I will describe a typical class. Class starts officially at 7.30pm. People usually start arriving around 7.20pm, take a seat and have a a chat untill class starts, usually around 7.35pm to allow for any latecomers. We do our stretches for half an hour and then continue into our meditation. Most people lie on the floor in the savasana or corpse position for maximum relaxation, after pulling on a sweater or covering themselves with a fleecy blanket, as your body temperature drips during meditation and relaxation. Before the class arrives, I prepare the altar with candles, crystals and statuettes. Some class members like to bring their own candles to place on the altar. The altar is simply a wooden table with a cloth over it. It's purpose is to create a focal point and an ambient atmosphere. It has no particular religious overtones. I also lay out our weekly tarotscope - horoscopes from tarot readings.I also prepare a weekly handout. This can be about relaxation, meditation tips, lifestyle tips, information on the meditation, or articles on various metaphysical subjects. Each weekly class develops its own dynamics. Sometimes we have lively discussions about the meditation, or a subject relating to the meditation. We have discussions on healing, spirituality, reiki, crystals, religion, in fact, any subject that comes up. Some weeks, people just drift away in a relaxed state without joining in. The aim of the class is to promote a sense of relaxation and well being, and if you just want to slip home and enjoy your relaxed state, that's what it's all about! Finally, I would like to say to anyone thinking of coming along, please do not hesitate to ask me about anything you aren't sure of. I will be delighted to see you, and am only too happy to answer any questions or discuss any apprehensions you may have. Blessed be. |
