                   Identifying with our Solar Plexus Charka

Our Solar Plexus Chakra is the seat of our personal power.  Our sense of self
worth, identity, passion, confidence and self will stem from this chakra.  It
gives us our sense of purpose, and drives us towards our goal in life.  It is
also a very volatile chakra, and can have a powerful effect on our emotions, 
especially rage.  It can be as volatile and destructive as a forest fire, therefore
we must look to our solar plexus and learn to use its power for our benefit.
We experience 'gut reactions' and the feeling of 'butterflies' in the solar
plexus, reminding us just how strongly this chakra is connected to our
emotions. Learn to focus your energies, and work mindfully towards your
goals. Stop fantasising about what you would like to do; instead, work
purposefully towards your desires.

Fire is the controlling element of the Solar Plexus Chakra. Go to events which
feature fires, such as Beltane, Summer Solstice celebrations, and
November 5th celebrations.  Visit a candle shop, and buy beautiful candles to
surround yourself in soft candlelight.  Get out into the sun as much as
possible and make sure you get sufficient sunlight to enable your body to
manufacture vitamin A.  Our bodies cannot manufacture this essential
vitamin without sunlight.  Lack of sunlight makes us lethargic and depressed,
having a detrimental effect on our emotional and physical health.  Sun bathe
sensibly!  Try Salsa for some powerful, fiery dancing.

The Solar Plexus Chakra vibrates with the colour yellow.  Wear yellow clothes
and topaz and amber jewellery.  Eat yellow foods such as sweetcorn, yellow
peppers, lentils and tomatoes, Chinese gooseberries and lemons.  Make lots
of split pea soup, and pease pudding is a good old fashioned nourishing food.
Absolutely delicious and full of goodness! Bananas are an excellent source of
potassium.


Meditation

Try this short meditation to help you harness your inner power.

Make sure you won't be disturbed, and prepare your meditation space.  Find
something yellow to sit or lie down on.  Light some yellow candles, and place
some citrine crystals on your altar. A bowl of lemons and /or a vase of yellow 
seasonal flowers will add an ambient touch.  Put on your music (The Celts, by
Enya is an ideal choice for the Solar Plexus), and position yourself
comfortably with your spine gently erect if you are sitting,and making sure
your body is in line with the spine straight, if you are lying down. Close your
eyes and start to concentrate on your breath, breathing deeply into your 
abdomen.  Your belly should fill and rise with each in breath, and deflate and
fall with each out breath.  Continuing to focus on your breath, visualise your
Solar Plexus as a vortex of power, and see it as consisting of two cones, one
pointing upwards to your Crown chakra, and joined to the other, which is
pointing downwards to your Root chakra.  Now as you breathe in, imagine
breathing the power and energy of Mother Earth in through your Root chakra,
up through your Sacral chakra and into the Solar Plexus where these cones
of power gather in strength and intensity, swirling and boiling with the golden,
fiery power of a sun spot on the surface of the sun.  Breathe in this power,
feel it  suffuse your whole being as it flows up into your Heart chakra,
intensifying the love and compassion of this chakra, feel it empower your
ability to communicate as it fills your Throat chakra.  And this solar energy
flows like lava into your Brow or Third Eye chakra, opening your intuition to
the power of the Universe, until  its intense power reaches your Crown
chakra, which opens like a thousand petaled lotus blossom, allowing the
energy to shoot out of the top of your head and shower all around you,
empowering and energising your aura.  You are now a shimmering light
being of power and energy.  Stay with this visualisation for as long as you
wish, absorbing the power and strength you have generated through your
chakras.

Give thanks to Mother Earth and the Universe for their gifts, and in your own
time, gradually come back to normal awareness; open your eyes and have
a good stretch.  Don't forget to ground yourself by having something to eat
and drink.
