Well today was a pretty blah day. My co-worker, Will, and I completed all of our fileing before lunch, so we had nothing else to do for the rest of the work day, and ended up leaving at 1 PM (boy will that show in my paycheck... *sigh*) Then the rest of my time was spent contemplating stupid things and arguing with my parents, so I eventually left the house to go see a movie (saw the Emporer's New Groove... very cute movie) and afterwards I felt a bit better. Then to make things even better, I recieved an reply from Neil Alday (lead singer of Social Burn) to and e-mail I left their guitarist Chris. Here's what he had to say: hey dorothy, this isn't chris, but he will get the Now if that isn't spiffy I don't know what is! So while chatting w/ my close bud I drew up something. In the pic Neil (singer) is in the front wearing a superman suit, but with SB on the logo. Then Chris (lead geetar) is to the left wearing a batman suit, only with a guitar on the chest rather than a bat. Brandon (drummer) is on the right dressed up as Rayden from Mortal Combat only he's wearing a cymbal on his head and holding up drumsticks. Dusty (bassist) is in the back as a Jedi Knight weilding a glowing bass guitar saber thingy. Hopefully they'll like it. If not I have more ideas! hehe Happy New Year Peoples! Well I've become a working bum for what is supposed to be my christmas VACATION, but I'm broke, need to buy gifts... what's a girl to do? I could draw everyone pretty little pictures, but no I'm too lazy to do such things. Oh heck, I'm lazy period! Blah! Parents, don't let your kids get addicted to computers... they're da devil! Buy them books! Like the Ta... haha thought I was going to say it eh? Fooled ya!!! But anywho, buy them books! Or art paper, geetars, whatever, don't get them computers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hehe^_^ Well that's my blurb for the day.. caio... Tuesday, December 26, 2000
Well looks like all the Christmas hooplah is over! Time to call in sick at work then hit the malls for those spectacular 60-90% off sales! WRONG!!! There were lots of people there, but no sales. Poo gas... Had $50 to blow on clothes. Saw a pair of spiffy pants at Hot Topics, $56. Not enough. Dang. So I ended up at Old Navy, got one pair of flares then blew most of the remainder on cd's... quite dissapointing. The cd's I bought were Metallica's ReLoad and Wheatus. Metallica is great, we all know that. Wheatus was okay. I only wanted it for "Teenage Dirtbag" (if you haven't heard it, DOWNLOAD IT!! Cute song) Punk Ass Bitch was funny... quite truthful too! "You know you want to spangle, but you can't seem to angle, one gives you attitude-a, your reason to be rude-a, you think that 'cuz she smiles' that you turn all her dials, but you don't see them later, while in the elevator, you nag her and you swagger, you think you're gonna shag her, a man about the town-a, get funky, let's get down-a... you have got no class, no style, no social skills, no comprehension... You open up your mouth-a, amazed at what comes out-a, it's just a testimony that you're full of bologna..." Heh... quite true in some of the "punks" I know. Last night I was strumming my guitar, and came up with a diddy! Actually I donno if you can even call it that... it's composed of only open chords... but my friend Steph liked it so it must be decent^^;;;; I'm gonna play around with it and see if I can set it to one of the new RWS songs. It'll suck, but it's my first time so cut me some slack k? Well that's it for today! What are you looking at me like that for? Oh no Tao of Pooh quote? Nah, I've put it down for a couple days cuz my brother got me the entire Harry Potter set for Christmas... so I'm reading that. Relieved eh? Monday, December 25, 2000
I'm not gonna bother saying much today cuz I'm gonna go play my geetar and read, so to everyone out there Merry Christmas/Happy Hannakah/Happy Kawanza/or for you atheists, Happy No-Work Monday! Saturday, December 23, 2000
Happy Eve of Christmas Eve! Oi, I'm so ready for tomorrow cuz I want my GEETAR DANGIT!! I WANT IT NOOOOOW! But oh well, only one more night... just one more... I can make it, maybe. I went to Bristol, again, today. My homie-g's presented me with their gift, which means that some people in this world actually LISTEN to me!! *sniff* They got me a tin box bank that says "Music Fund" on it. If you guys check out the RWS page, it has me mentioning the Help Dot Get A New Geetar Fund (HDGANGF), so this was the perfect gift for me! Cuz now that I'll be getting a new geetar, I can use the money to buy tab books! That or some really awesome cd's (hehe) I was bored at work reading more of the Tao Of Pooh and found something pretty funny. So here's more philosophical stuff to humor you all^_~ Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie, Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie, Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie, Let's start with the first part: "A fly can't bird, but a bird can fly." Very simple. It's obvious, isn't it? And yet, you'd be surprised how many people violate this simple principle every day of their lives and try to fit square pegs into round holes, ignoring the clear reality that Things Are As They Are. In other words, everything has its own place and function. That applies to people, although many don't seem to realize it, stuck as they are in the wrong job, the wrong marriage, or the wrong house. When you know and respect your own Inner Nature, you know where you belong. You also know where you don't belong. One man's food is often another man's poison, and what is glamorus and exciting to some can be a dangerous trap to others. And now, let's go on to the second part: "A fish can't whistle and neither can I." Coming from a wise mind, such a statement would mean, "I have certain limitations and I know what they are." Such a mind would act accordingly. There's nothing wrong with not being able to whistle, especially if you're a fish. But there can be lots of things wrong with blindly trying to do what you aren't designed for. Fish don't live in trees, and birds don't spend too much time underwater if they can help it. Unfortunately some people--whom alwyas seem to think they're smarter than fish and birds, somehow--aren't so wise, and end up causing big trouble for themselves and others. That doesn't mean we need to stop changing and improving. It just means that we need to reckognize what's there. If you face the fact that you have weak mustles, say, then you can do the right things and eventually beocme strong. But if you ignore what's there and try to lift someone's car out of a ditch, what sort of condition will you be in after a while? And even if you have more mustle than anyone alive, you still can't push over a freight train. The wise know their limitations, the foolish do not. Now the last part of the principle: "Why does a chicken, I don't know why." Why does a chicken do what it does? You don't know? Neither do we. Neither does anyone else. Science likes to strut around and act smart by putting its labels on everything, but you look at them closely, you'll see that they don't really say much. "Genes"? "DNA"? Just scratching the sruface. "Instinct"? You know what that means... Curious: "Why do birds fly south for the winter?" It means, "We don't know." The important thing is that we don't really need to know. We don't need to play Abstract Philosopher and ask unnessisary questions and coming up with meaningless answers. Okay that's enough... hehe don't wanna get sued for publishing the entire book online... *grin* SO GO BUY THE BOOK DANGIT! Well that is, if stuff liket his interests you! And if you like it I want you to sign my guestbook offering me praise and money for reccomending such a great book! (and you will too ^_~) MERRY CHRISTMAS! Thursday, December 21, 2000
Today I started reading a book titled "The Tao of Pooh" which is basically an explination of Taoism through... well as the title suggests, Winnie-the-Pooh. Here's some excerpts from the book that explains what Taoism is and the message behind it... I'm sure most of you will find it interesting. When you discard arrogance, complexity, and a few other things that get in the way, sooner of later you will discover that simple, childlike, and mysterious secrets known to those of the Uncarved Block: Life is fun. (note: here is the author using Pooh as an example) "What I think," said Pooh, "is I think we'll go to Pooh Corner and see Eeyore, because perhaps his house has been blown down and perhaps he'd like us to build it again." "What I think," said Piglet, "is I think we'll go and see Christopher Robin, only he won't be there, so we can't." "Let's go and see everybody," said Pooh. "Because when you've been walking in the wind for miles and you suddenly go into someboydd's house, and he says, 'Hallo Pooh, you're just in time for a little smackerel of something,' and you are, then it's what I call a Friendly Day." Piglet thought that they ought to have a reason for going to see everybody, like looking for Small or organizing an expotition, if Pooh could think of something. Pooh could. "We'll go because it's Thursday," he said, "and we'll go to wish everybody a Very Happy Thursday! Come on Piglet." From the state of the Uncarved Block comes the ability to enjoy the simple and the quiet, the natural and the plain. Along with that comes the ability to do things spontaneously and have them work, odd as that may appear to others at times. As Piglet put it, "Pooh hasn't much brain, but he never comes to any harm. He does silly things and they turn out right." There's alot more to it then what I gave, but the message that I have recieved from this book runs quite similar to the one in Hayao Miyazaki's "My Neighbor Totoro" which pretty much tells the viewer to look at life from a child's point of view, and you might see things you've never seen before. But so far I have really enjoyed this book because I have lived my life in a similar way, (and many of my friends can verify this! hehe) and by doing so I have been able to keep the company of my imagination, and just be content with what life gives me, good or bad. So if what crap I have said makes the least bit of sense to you, then I would highly reccomend that you read the Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff. Monday, December 18, 2000
Well this weekend has been a complete blast! My friends and I went to a benifit concert in Blounstown. A local band called "Social Burn" was playing, and we has seen them peform at a local club one night so we figured this would be the first (and possibly only) time we'd get to see a local band in a non-bar atmosphere (cuz at the Late Night Library the smoke was so think you couldn't breathe and everyone was either drunk or high... not too comfortable for a group of sober girls just looking for some good music...). Anywho we went and as we expected, most of the attendants to the show were the school jocks and preps who don't even listen to rock music; instead they play their make-me-wanna-**** rap music (which makes me cringe at the sound of it...bleck) or horrible country music. And again, as expected most of them left after the second act. What really impressed me though, was a band called "Treehouse Mafia". It's a punk band composed of 3 guys, and they all looked to be 14 or younger. Even the bass player had to be 12 or 13! But it totally amazed my friends and I (of whom are attempting to start a band of our own SOMEDAY) that these kids had mastered their instraments as well as the older bands. They did covers to Blink182 and Green Day, and did a perfect job of it. I offered to help them out by adding them onto Dot N Happy Bob's Muzik Piks, so you might see some of their stuff up there one day. Another young band that played was Cornerstone. These guys were all freshmen or sophmores from high school. They played really well (especially the lead guitarist, he was rippin it!) but the lead singer could NOT hold a tune!!! He either needs to practice more or they need to be scouting for a new singer cuz even the singer had low esteem about his performance. After the show, Ashley bought their cd, I got a poster, and we had the band sign them. (Beth had them sign her tin lunchbox-purse^_~) We got to have a few minutes to talk to Chris Cobb, the lead guitarist, and I asked him if they were all from Blounstown and his reply was "Yup, born and raised" and my responce to him was "Ooooh man" he looked at me funny and asked if there was a problem and I replied "Well I just never thought that a place like this could spawn some really talented artists as yourselves." We then mentioned to him our band, and now he want to listen to our "stuff" since we're from the same community and all. I also got the bassist from Fuse to sign my poster (he was just there to help set up, but we reckognized him from the Late Night Library show.). It was so great though to see such awesome local talent, cuz the Bristol/Hosford/Blounstown area is soooo small and narrowminded it's very depressing to someone like me. But to see guys like Social Burning, who are CLEAN and working hard to make it big, it brings some hope to that lifeless town. Any of you interested in hearing Social Burn, I have created mp3's from their cd (with their concent of course, don't want FRICKIN LARS FROM METALLICA to sue me^_~) and I have a Napster account. My username is Asuka82. Also I have some fresh mp3's of Fetch too since I've heard complaints that the ones on mp3.com aren't very clear. Thursday, December 14, 2000
