A warning about an Internet scammer
named Joe David Harrison
who is trying to commit fraud
by falsely claiming to be the
author of the Don't Quit Poem
| The "Don't Quit" poem is famous in literature and was written long before I was born (1955) as my grandparents had an old copy of it and I still have that framed poem hanging up in my living room - word for word as it appears on my website. The origin of this poem will never be known as the author is long dead and anonymous and there is no copyright on it and never will be. The U.S. Copyright Office recognizes this poem as Public Domain. I want to warn you about a scammer that is going around the Web contacting people that have the "Don't Quit" poem on their website (and their are hundreds of these sites) and claiming that he wrote the poem. This idiot claims his name is Joe David Harrison ([email protected]) and he gets his kicks out of threatening website owners with copyright violations if you don't post his name on your website as the author of this poem. This fool claims to have written the poem in 1994 and had it copyrighted in 1998 and this simply isn't true - he is all bluff and no copyright will ever exist on this poem. He tried his scam on the wrong person with me as "Don't Quit" has been my favorite poem my entire life. My guess is that this poem was written close to a hundred years ago and it definitely is public domain and always will be. Tell this fool to get lost if he starts harassing you as he is just some nut playing around trying to set up some kind of legacy for himself with this poem. If you are a website owner with this poem on it and Joe David Harrison or anyone else contacts you from any email address claiming that he is the author of the Don't Quit poem then report him to the U.S. Copyright office, www.copyright.gov and also call your local police department and give them the email address he uses as most departments today go after these Internet scammers. Claiming false Copyrights is a Federal violation and a felony and the police will send the same Internet task force that they use to go after pedophiles in chat rooms to go after after this guy. Save your emails from this fraudster as I have, to be used as evidence against him as the email address he uses is an electronic finger print. Joe David Harrison is a sad and twisted individual with no purpose of his own apparently except trying to make up for his own inadequacies by taking credit for other people's work. The "Don't Quit" Poem is a beautiful and inspirational poem and it would be a huge injustice to give credit for its writing to anyone other than the long dead author. |
